It seems the Mariners are doing an opener for this one but I can’t seem to find who this might be. Will update when I get more. Edit, this will be Wisler opening for the 10th time this season.

No matter, it’s time to right more ships. This one is to get Happ fixed and pitching more up to his contract worth. This should be a fairly easy and expected victory, truthfully, as this road trip reaches its end. Something about me and long travel.

Suppose that makes me the Encarnacion of SoSH’s Yankee contingent: AFK for a bit, back, but travel lots.

ESPN again nationally if you don’t get YES. Think I’ll stick with Kay and Co.

Happ is a lost cause this year. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't make the playoff roster(s).

I'd be surprised at this point if he does make the playoff roster, but I don't think he's a lost cause. His velocity is there, he was awesome down the stretch as recently as last year, just a question of consistent control, I think.

Interesting subplots in this series: Mike Ford was taken by Seattle in the rule 5 before the 2018 season, he lasted until just before Opening Day when Seattle chose Vogelbach over him. That was the right choice, but Ford will still be trying to prove something this series.

Then tomorrow, we get Tanaka/Kikuchi and Wed Paxton/Sheffield...

Not sure what you mean by lost cause. Happ has made 25 starts this season. In a season full of injuries, Happ has been there to take the ball and do his job. That counts for something. His role will be reduced or eliminated for the first playoff series. But he helped this team during the long grind.

Yup, time is running out for Happ. He has been a well below-average SP every month except April. This is with the understanding that average is around a 4.50 ERA in the AL. Paxton and Tanaka are seemingly figuring out their issues but with Happ it just seems like he's getting worse, and August is by far his worst month. He's obviously frustrated and his last start was an example of that.

Keep it together on the mound.

Exciting pitchers at all four top levels for NY tonight: Nick Nelson (AAA), Miguel Yajure in his AAA debut, Luis Medina (high A), Roansy Contreras (low A), I believe they have 7 scoreless innings between them as of now.

All four pitched very well, a combined line of 22 14 6 3 8 24, 1.23 ERA for the night.

"Dellin Betances (right lat strain) bounced back fine from his recent simulated game at the Yankees' complex in Tampa, Fla., and is scheduled to throw to hitters again on Wednesday. If that goes well, Betances could begin a Minor League rehab assignment.

Luis Severino (right lat strain) is scheduled to throw a 35-pitch simulated game on Tuesday in Tampa, Fla. Assuming there are no issues, Severino could be cleared to begin a Minor League rehab assignment on Sunday.

Giancarlo Stanton (right PCL strain) performed agility drills on the field Monday in Seattle, and could take on-field batting practice Tuesday for the first time since his June 25 injury. Stanton could report to Tampa, Fla. during the upcoming homestand to begin logging at-bats.

Jordan Montgomery bounced back well from his first Minor League rehab start for Class A Advanced Tampa. Montgomery is expected to join Double-A Trenton next, and Boone said Montgomery could be ready to pitch in big league games at some point in September."

Very nice update, a little anxiety with Severino and Betances progress, and if they do return it’ll be just in time. Montgomery’s progress seems to be a pleasant surprise.

Their pitch counts have been super low, but presumably NY will still stay away from Ottavino and Britton in a third straight (pitch counts of 8/8 and 10/5). Cory Gearrin was on SEA until a week ago, he should get some innings this series in comfortable surroundings so they can start to see if he is really worth a 40 man spot in the upcoming crunch.

Mike Ford is a great story (undrafted, from Princeton, both the Ivy League hitter and pitcher of the year his final season), but he is going to have to hit a bunch of HRs to not lose his 40 man spot once Stanton needs to come off the 60 day. Besides Voit ahead of him and Encarnacion back sometime, NY has Ryan McBroom behind him who is also 27 and a beast, born a few months before Ford. Ford was leading the International League in OPS at 1.007 (349 PAs), but McBroom is just behind him in second at .970.

Of course, he hit another HR while I was writing this, keep it going Mike...

Every single Yankee fan expecting another three run HR there, good job Happ. One more inning.

This is why I love baseball. Blink and you're gonna miss one of the most interesting things I've seen mid-game.

YES showed side by side video graphic of balk and non-balk pitches and they were identical.

Chapman gets the save with 102 mph K. Good win and 3-1 since that horrid sweep at Oakland.

102!

I’ve personally seen enough of Gearrin, this bullpen doesn’t have room for an OK ROOGY with a dubious motion. Ben Heller has pitched in 7 games in Scranton on his way back from TJS (8 3 1 1 3 10, 1.13 ERA), I bet he would be an upgrade on Gearrin and he needs to be added to the 40 man once his rehab is up anyway. Maybe on Friday once they are back...

The Dodgers/Astros/Yankees race for home field advantage has been amazing for at least a month, now it's:

LAD 86-47
NYY 86-47
HOU 85-47

NY loses a tie to HOU (4-3 season series) and wins one with LAD because of this past weekend.

Brendan Kuty posted:

"Andujar hurt. Gio Urshela: "Fine, I'll do it."

Stanton hurt. Tauchman: "Fine, I'll do it.

Severino hurt. German: "Fine, I'll do it."

Voit/Encarnacion hurt. Ford: "Fine, I'll do it."

Hicks hurt. Gardy: "Fine, I'll do it.""

Also you could throw in Betances/Kahnle, Kahnle was unusable last year, even after he went to AAA for a few months, he still had a 8.59 ERA and 1.045 OPS against during September and he wasn't on the postseason roster. This year he has been amazing, maybe even better than 2017 which caused Olney to pick him as a top 17 reliever in all of baseball coming into 2018.
