Thx. I had assumed it was starting tomorrow because it wasn't on the Gameday. They seem confused. Even in that preview it says 11 a.m. but it's already started.

Jeison Payano pitched a 1-2-3 1st with 2 strikeouts...& now also a 1-2-3 2nd.

Just noticed a random fun fact: Robert Kwiatkowski, the Kwiat Man, has only started one game this season and has pitched in relief 29 times totaling 64 IP in 2 levels with a 3.09 ERA. But his won-loss record is 12-2.
That's a LOT of relief wins in only 64 innings. I wonder if he has just come in to a lot of tie games, or if he has blown a few leads that the offense pulled out for him to get the W.
Should his nickname be The Vulture? Or maybe just Winning Pitcher Kwiatkowski.

I think a lot of the minor league pitchers are on strict pitch/innings counts, so he is probably coming into a lot of games in the 4th or 5th innings.

I posted a lot about it earlier in the season when he was 9-0 in his 1st 16 appearances (32.2 IP), including 2-0 in his 3 games with Worcester.

He got them in all kinds of different ways. Here is the inning range in each of those 1st 9 wins:

2-4
8-9
9
3-5
5-7
4-6
2-5
8-10
5-7

He allowed 3 runs in the 7th win & 2 runs in the 8th, but none in the others.

They scored their 5th in the bottom of the 5th, but Payano was done after 5. Yoandys Veraza walked all 3 batters he faced & Gilbel Galvan hasn't been very good either.

Holding on to a 5-4 lead heading to bottom 7.

Juan Henriquez allowed a run in the 8th & another in the 9th & Red headed into the bottom of the 9th down 6-5.

After a single, a fielder's choice that didn't load to an out, a sac fly & some walks, Christopher Alvarado hit a game winning sac fly & DSL Red won 7-6 in the 1st game of the Semi-finals.

Early did allow a run in the 2nd, though.

So many rehabbing Yankees in this series. 30 y/o Cody Poteet got the start.
Early left with 2 outs in the 5th inning & Jonathan Brand came in & allowed both runners to score, messing with an otherwise solid pitching line:

4.2 IP, 3 ER, 4 hits, 2 bb, 9 k

Liam Hendriks faced 4 hitters:

Strikeout
Groundball to 3rd, throwing error
Single to score a run
Strikeout

So 0.2 IP, 1 run, 0 ER, 1 hit 0 bb, 2 k

Jacob Webb pitched 2.1 scoreless innings & Zach Bryant pitched a 1-2-3 9th.

Portland were back to their struggling offensive ways & lost 4-1.

Jhostynxon 2-4
McDonough/Rosier 1-3, 2b
Binelas 1-3, bb
Liendo 1-3

Kirwin allowed 5 runs, 4 earned in 5 innings. Conor Steinbaugh pitched 3 scoreless, allowing Salem to get back into the game, but despite 3 runs in the 8th, they lost 5-4.

I really want Grissom to prove he can be the starting 2B next year over these last few weeks. He seems to have everything he needs to do it, it just has been derailed and hasn't clicked since coming over. He just seems like an awesome kid, and I really want him to succeed here.

I think likewise.
I can add that I have a close friend who is a manager in the Braves minor league system, and as a former IF himself, he has worked very closely with Grissom. He is convinced that Grissom can play a solid 2B in addition to being a solid hitter.
I would like to add that immediately after discovering he was being traded to the Red Sox and, initially being in the pole position to cover 2B in the MLB team, he called my friend to let him know and to personally thank him for all the work he had done with him in order to improve defensively.
Very few players reach out like this to an instructor from a team they are abandoning. This speaks a great deal about the young man.
I am rooting for him, and am convinced he will start at Fenway sooner rather than later!

I think everyone here is rooting for Grissom to have a long and productive career. My own personal reservations concern a) whether that's a likely outcome, and b) whether it's likely - or even best case - in a Red Sox uniform. But it would be nice to see him overcome 2-3 years of injury and underperformance and become a ML star!

I asked Elmer which he preferred in spring training and he said Rodriguez (which is also what was on his jersey).
Thx! We will officially drop the Cruz on everything. I'll miss calling him ERC, though. Will need a new nickname.
