I guess we'll start with the answer to the question posed in the thread title...no, we definitely needed more than Juan Valera.

Valera - 3 IP, 0 ER, 2 hits, 2 bb, 3 k

Judice - 1-2-3 4th with a strikeout

Bickerstaff - 1-2-3 5th & 6th, 1 k

I don't think I previously saw this video of Calvin Wolfgang Bickerstaff's 1st game:

Kilander - 2IP, 0 runs, 0 hits, 1 bb, 0 k

He's now pitched 3 hitless innings with a walk & a k in his 2 outtings since being drafted in the 16th round.

But since they were out of Veleras, Natty Cruz pitched the 9th & allowed 3 runs, 1 earned.

& they lost 3-0. Salem only put up 2 hits.

Brannon 1-3, 3b, bb
Aybubi 1-3
Nelly at 0-3, bb, sb (31)

Portland lost 8-4.

Rough outting for Sandlin.

4 IP, 6 ER, 6 hits, 2 hr, 3 bb, 6 k

Such a confusing profile for a guy who either seems to avoid contact entirely or get hit hard.

Bryce Bonnin came in next to make his AA debut.

2 IP, 0 runs, 2 hits, 3 bb, 3 k

Not so sure a 2.5 WHIP & a 0.00 ERA is sustainable, but we'll take it.

Reidis Sena made his 2nd AA appearance & his line was just as up & down than Sandlin...

3 IP, 2 ER, 2 hits, 2 bb, 7 k

As a whole, Portland pitchers allowed 8 runs on 10 hits while walking 8 & striking out 16.

WooSox lost 6-3. It was all downhill after the Roman leadoff homer. Although they briefly did tie the game back up at 2.

Rogers allowed 2 ER.

Zach Fogell was next. He allowed 1 of 2 inherited runners to score & allowed an unearned run of his own in 2.1 IP in 4 hits with 1 k.

Isaac Stebens finished off the game with 2.1 scoreless innings, 2 hits, 1 bb, 5 k. He picked up the save, despite coming in with a 7-3 lead because there were 2 runners on. He loaded both the bases & the count in the 9th, just for funsies.

Oops, I conflated the clips. That was the 7th inning. This was the end of the game.

Without looking back at what I said in this thread, I can only assume he's right, though.
