Great all-around win. Paxton was simply excellent and this was his 4th quality start in August.

I watched from the start later, I didn't realize that NY's offense woke up right after A-Rod got into the booth in the 3rd and outscored LA 8-1 the 4 innings he was there. I can put up with him for that kind of production. :)

Also amazing pre-game work, Terry! I didn't want to jinx anything before the game, but it would have been almost impossible for Paxton to have had his best game of the season, that was still the mid-April one that got NY going again, a 8-0 win against Sale in their first meeting of the season, 8 2 0 0 1 12. I haven't looked it up but this one must have been second best, 29 swing and misses!!!

Also NY still barely used their back end guys, just 4 pitches from Kahnle, so they can push them hard this weekend if they get the chance. Britton and Chapman haven't pitched since last Saturday against the Indians, and Ottavino and Kahnle not much more.

Just lock up Gleyber for 8-10 years now. Dude bleeds pinstripes so much he flies out of his way just to hang out for an hour and travel with the team (seriously wtf?). And pay him more than Acuna, because that contract is virtually unconscionable. Make this the best trade Cashman ever made.

Funny thing happened. I fell asleep during the 6th inning and woke up during the 6th inning of the encore and finished the game.

My last “good feeling” came before the Chris Sale Game in Boston. It is the last resort in my bag of karma tricks.

Yanks have no dominating ace starters. Paxton needs to develop the mindset that he can match the best October aces, if only for 5 innings. Last night was an example of that. Keep it close until the offense figures out the opposing starter, then let the bullpen clean up. After Paxton’s turn, then German and Tanaka can go as hard as they can for 4 or 5 innings. Maybe Seve. I see no other formula for playoff success, as Houston’s elite starters present a major problem for everyone.

August ERA:

Paxton 3.56
Tanaka 4.21
German 4.44

All three have improved from their June and July performances so as trends go heading towards the end of the season, this is something we all want to see, progressive improvement.

With Paxton, ever since he's dropped his FB usage from around 65% to 50% he's been very effective but some credit has to be given to Sanchez (and Rothschild) as well especially for last night's game, as Cone pointed out, because Paxton rarely shook him off. So, lets hope they continue to be on the same page and continue to keep batters off-balance.
