Lots of challenges during a long baseball season. Losing four in a row and then rolling into Dodger Stadium against a really good Dodgers team is one of them. The recent struggles have been a good test for all the young players the Yankees depend on. Easier to play well when the team is winning. Let's see who can step up when everything is hard. Gleyber sure did. Who else will?

Iron sharpens iron and all that.

"Gleyber Torres (22 yrs, 253 days) is the 2nd youngest player in MLB history to reach 10 career multi-HR games. The only younger player to do it was Mel Ott (22 Years, 163 days)."

And Jeter only had 10 in his entire career, wow.

I didn't see last night's game, but looking through the play-by-play it appears Judge might be coming around. Some hard hit balls and pulled a ball or two.

I think he might be. I hope so. He and all the other young players need to step up. Crow is coming for their game thread.

Funny, that's the second time I've gotten a date wrong in a thread title. My brain is fried. I like this thread better :)

SEA called up Justus Sheffield to start tonight, which means if he sticks, his next start will be Wed against NY and Paxton, that would be interesting.

Fangraphs with an article on Tauchman today.

We talked about it before, but Judge and Tauchman have been the two best defensive OFs in the AL this season by both DRS/game and UZR/150, Judge somehow has the same number of DRS as Betts in half the innings. Both charts are in the linked piece.

The 'good' news about no DH this weekend is that that doesn't really hurt NY currently. Tauchman sits against the lefty, Gleyber up to third and Gio down to sixth:

1. DJ LeMahieu 1B
2. Aaron Judge RF
3. Gleyber Torres 2B
4. Gary Sanchez C
5. Didi Gregorius SS
6. Gio Urshela 3B
7. Brett Gardner CF
8. Cameron Maybin LF
9. James Paxton P

I meant to write this before TB went up 7-0 on BAL, but I would sign up right now for just 1 of the 6 games in the LAD/NYY and TB/BAL series going our way. NY has a 8 game lead now, 1 of the 6 going our way would mean a 6 game lead.

Tampa has one more run left. Yanks need to be pushed a bit, for their own good. The current club can only go so far. It’s essential that Severino and Betances are playoff-ready when the bell rings in October. And they need Encarnacion and probably Stanton back, too. The final six weeks are all about getting better.

Maybin, the No. 8 hitter, fans on 3 pitches. Now hitless in 11 trips vs. Ryu.

Paxton up. Hitless in his 9 MLB at-bats. 9 Ks.

Didi should have tried to score on ball in dirt but didn’t.

And now Paxton Ks to end the threat.

Sure, ask A-Rod about pressure, the biggest head case superstar in my lifetime.

Back of the bullpen is itching to get into a game if Paxton can get it to them.

Shitty job by Paxton there, have to put him away after you get to 0-2.

I don't mind ARod as much as I used to, but I do wish he would talk less.

He tries so hard.

I have an even better feeling now. Didi jumped on the first pitch, as he is prone to do.

Gio follows the slam with his second double ofvgame.

Ryu is gone.
