Fitts and Dean have to be two of a pretty small number of pitchers who are impressing this year, right?
List off the top of my head of starting pitchers I've been impressed by this year in rough order (not a ranking, just for their age & level & maybe a bit compared to expectations)...

1) Perales
2) Yordanny
3) Valera
4) Paez
5) ERC
6) Jojo
7) Sandlin
8) Dobbins
9) Penrod
10) Early
11) Fitts
12) Mullins
13) Wehunt
14) Wikelman
15) Duffy
16) Coffey
17) Dean

Dean had some high highs in A-Ball... but he's 23 & his 3.96 ERA was higher than every single real prospecty guy they had, including guys like Royman Blanco & Trennor O'Donnell who are also 23 & nowhere close to a list like this.

In 12.1 innings in High-A he has allowed 10 hits & 10 walks, hit 5 guys & struck out 21 (5.11 ERA, 4.87 xFIP).

A lot going on there lol

The upside is definitely intriguing, though, as made very clear by the 9 games this season where he pitched at least 4 shutout innings & allowed either 1 or 0 hits.

He actually did the same thing in 3 of his last 4 games last season.

I guess I got hypnotized by the good outings!

Seems to have been a mixed bag for a bunch of these guys - Yordanny has been great after a rough start, Perales was solid until he got hurt despite being way young, Sandlin's been hit or miss (kind of literally).

Feels like the position players have had more stroke this year. TBF, that's true of the ML team, too...

I think the only hitter prospects who I'd say dramatically exceeded expectations for more than just short bursts are KCamp & Arias? Who were both severely underrated by mainstream outlets anyway...

Jhostynxon, too, but still not 100% sold on that one.

I forgot Dalvinson Reyes from my pitcher list. He's probably #3.

Another 2 hit game for Campbell tonight. He's played a lot of SS over the last month and a half - do we know how he is there? Is he a legitimate big league SS prospect? That could make things interesting on a lot of levels.

Matthew Lugo too while he was here.

I mean sure... those 2 + Cutter Coffey had some really good stretches/seasons that led to them being sold "high" for very little value.

Mickey Gasper is similar in terms of someone who has had a good hitting season but lacks the defensive capabilities to really level up as a prospect.

It's all semantics, though. We definitely are more hitting-oriented in terms of our best prospects, but I personally have been more excited about the growth of our pitchers than our hitters this season.

And Portland got 2 hits, Greenville 0 hits, Salem 4 hits.
Sounds like an easy recap day! Sorry I've been falling behind. Lots going on.

Greenville did in fact get 0 hits... but they scored a run in the 1st on a walk, a groundout, a wild pitch & a sac fly.

Similarly, Noah Dean allowed 0 hits in his appearance, but allowed a run in the 3rd on 2 walks & 2 flyouts, & left with 2 runners on & 1 out in the 4th before Jedixson Paez shut the door.

"Scoreless" seems like an aggressive take.

Dean - 3.1 IP, 1 ER, 0 hits, 5 bb, 6 k
Paez - 4.2 IP, 1 ER, 2 hits, 1 bb, 7 k
GJax - 1-2-3 8th

The Drive lost 2-1.

Greenville had 6 different guys with 1 walk each including Zach Ehrhard who added a sac fly & Fraymi De Leon who added a steal.

The Woo Sox won 12-3 over Norfolk.
Fitts wasn't exactly FittsMagic last night, but he was solid and got the win: 5 IP, 3 runs, 4 hits, 2 BB, 7K.
2 HRs allowed, one by Coby Mayo.
Luis Guerrero went 2 innings, no runs, 1 walk, 5 Ks.
Anthony was 2-4 with 2 walks, and Campbell 2 for 5 with a walk.

Fitts and Guerrero have been doing well overall lately and one or both might be bale to help the big league staff, but I don't think they want to add them to the 40-man this season. There's definitely room right now, but it's going to get really crowded in the offseason.
For example, it sure looks like they will need to add Yordanny to the 40-man after this season.

Will have to do a deep dive on the 40 at some point...
