PawSox popped by Rochester in the suspended game, 6-3.

Boxscore

Chandler Shepherd got the start last night (in lieu of original starter Justin Haley) and went five innings, surrendering four runs on seven hits and two walks while whiffing a quintet. Travis Lakins let in two runs on three hits and two walks over 1 2/3 frames; striking out one. Robby Scott secured the final four outs, relinquishing two hits.

Josh Ockimey – who was still with Portland when the game started on July 5th – slugged a single, a double, and a homer in four jaunts in place of Adam Lind, who was waiting on deck when the game was postponed and is now dearly departed. Mike Miller had a single and a walk in three matchups; he was also caught stealing. Kyle Wren had a single on the fifth but was replaced for the remainder of the game last night by Cole Sturgeon, who suffered a trio of subpar sessions. Oscar Hernandez hit a single in three opportunities before being pinch hit for by Tony Renda in the ninth; Renda lined out. Rusney Castillo contributed a double in four contests. Sam Travis singled once in four trips. Tzu-Wei Lin walked once in four treks. Brandon Phillips was unable to reach in his first three plate appearances for the PawSox (this is technical weirdness – see below) after replacing Mike Ohlman who struck out in the first on the fifth. Ivan De Jesus had a quartet of disastrous dalliances.

Technical Weirdness Explained:

Since the game started on July 5th, all stats for the game are carried as if the game was completed on July 5th. So Tony Phillips career with the Red Sox no longer started with a 2-for-5 with Lowell on July 7th, it starts with an 0-for-3 for Pawtucket. And Josh Ockimey's first hit for the PawSox is now a home run on July 5th (in his first at-bat no less). Furthermore, Josh Ockimey combined to hit 6-for-9 on July 5th this year with games in two different cities.

Baseball is weird.

Portland uses a pair of errors to walk-off in the ninth, 3-2.

Boxscore

Daniel McGrath was dinged for two runs on six hits and a walk over five frames and three batters; striking out six. Adam Lau allowed two walks and punched out four over three scoreless. Jordan Weems walked one and whiffed one in the ninth; also throwing a wild pitch.

Chad De La Guerra and Jordan Betts each blooped a single and earned a base on balls in four jaunts. Michael Chavis, Bobby Dalbec, and Luke Tendler each lined a hit in four trips; Tendler and Dalbec with doubles, Chavis with a two-run cuadrangular. Jeremy Rivera and Austin Rei each received a free pass in four appearances. Chris Madera and Danny Mars each dropped a sacrifice bunt in four matchups; and combined for the exciting ninth inning finish.

Madera started the ninth with a grounder to second, misplayed by the scion of former Red Sox Dante Bichette, Bo. Danny Mars then dropped his sacrifice bunt which ended up being the game winner. The bunt was picked up by the son of Hall of Famer Craig Biggio, Cavan. Cavan threw the ball wildly to first and Madera raced all the way from first to score on the play.
