James Paxton couldn’t get an out in the second inning of his horrid 2020 debut. He looked at game film and noticed some delivery flaws that led to decreased velocity. Look at the velocity right away tonight as an early indicator.
ESPN has this game. Air time is 7 p.m.
Boston will begin with Austin Brice, late of Miami and Cincinnati. Normally a reliever. Born in Hong Kong. 28 years old. Yanks have never seen him, which is true of half the relievers this revamped and very shorthanded pitching staff Boston has used so far.

It doesn't matter how well or how poorly Paxton has been pitching. He's going to throw 6+ innings of like 4-hit, 1-run ball against what appears to be one of the worst teams in baseball that suddenly can't seem to win a game in Yankee Stadium.

It's going to be another bloodbath in the Bronx, I'm afraid. And I only wish this was in the reverse-lock spirit.

Since we are pals, I have to give you my numbers theory. In the 20th century, Red Sox won five World Series, the last one in 1918. Then they traded their best player. In the 21st Century, they have won four, the last one in 2018. Then they traded their best player. See a pattern here?

Orioles finish off a sweep of TB, who are down to 4-6 and desperately miss Austin Meadows.

The Land of Thomas Cecil
Looked up the game ARod was talking about with Wells. It was his perfect game against Minnesota. Weird way to frame that, 120 pitches, complete game, no shake offs.

Paxton looks a bit off, tentative by body language too. Not scaring anyone out there.

Really not looking good for Paxton, career low velocity last time and worse today:

2019: 95.4 avg, 100 max
July 25: 92.4 avg, 93.8 max
Today (thru 2nd): 19 pitches, 91.4 avg, 92.9 max

Rotation by Sept 1 if Paxton doesn't find his velocity soon:

Cole
Tanaka
Montgomery
Schmidt
Loaisiga or King or Deivi

Bad pitch choice by Sanchez/King on 3-2 to Bogaerts, I knew the slider in the zone was coming there too.
