This series opener will be like this series opener from a week ago:

Hard to believe that the same team in that video just got swept at home by the Rays. But today is another day and bad times are over.

Winning tonight will help to wash away the stink of the Rays series. Lots of soap and water needed.

How about some good Red Sox starting pitching for a change?

That Sale loss to the Yanks at the end of crushing them 3 straight games really felt like a nut punch that left them frazzled and weakened. The Rays came in and beat up a weakened opponent. Another loss tonight I fear could really be a spiral into a failed season.... a win will reset that. As Kevin Millar said, "Don't let us win tonight."

JA Happ is on the paternity list, so Yankees this weekend Paxton, German, and then who knows (openers?).

Gardner is back though.

40 Years ago today.
"Much like Thurman Munson, Phils' starter Randy Lerch could not stand prosperity, leaving in the 3rd inning with a 4-1 lead, and failing to get the win in an eventual 7-4 Philadelphia victory."

TCM schedule for tonight: The Philadelphia Story @ 8 and The Uninvited @ 10. The former one has seen too many times, though it is Ruth Hussey's best part. (It's Ruth Hussey Day). The latter is new to me, labelled "Horror," which I usually avoid before bed, but the description doesn't sound too scary. An interesting movie is on now, "Tender Comrade," written by Dalton Trumbo. The funny part is that Ginger Rogers was fiercely anti-communist and was very upset to learn that the communal household run by women during the war was a suggestion by Trumbo of how society should operate.

Geaux, Sox! I do hope that Cora's chat with the guys dealt with how to move guys over, don't try to do too much, just get the run in. Is it possible that they've given up on the season and are settling for padding their stats?

Isn't a player padding his stats, and helping the team win, pretty much the same thing?

Is that you, Wade?

If I hit a grounder to the right side to move the man on second over to 3B, the stats say I just made an out. If I'm stat padding, I try (and often fail) to hit the ball 450 feet for a homer.

Well, guys like Betts, JD and X are capable of extra base-hits and JBJ, Devers and Ben10 are left-handed hitters anyway, so trying to deliberately hit weak grounders to the right side is not applicable to too many guys in the line-up.

yeah if you try to hit the ball hard for a home run you often fail to hit a home run, but you're more likely to help the team by hitting it hard somewhere than trading an out for a base

If I were Cora I’d get tossed just so I didn’t have to watch this shitshow.
