Gardner has to be careful now especially since the umpires have apparently placed a bullseye on his back. Thankfully, today’s game resulted in a win but because of the ejection, two positions were downgraded defensively. Estrada in RF and Ford at 1st which could've been disastrous in a close game.
To the Yankees’ next opponent, the A’s.
My first visit ever to Yankee Stadium II, thought it would be more full with the Rivera ceremony and a playoff opponent. The crowd was all over Paxton in the 1st inning. I can’t say I’m looking forward to seeing him or Happ in the playoffs.
Paxton was a pitch away from probably starting the 6th and earning his fourth straight quality start. I mean we’ve all been following this guy, and IMO he has made good progress. And, sure he gives up runs in the 1st inning, but he’s usually lights out after that. As for using an opener, the first step would be to get the pitcher on board with the idea. This is something that was mentioned on YES earlier this summer, and my understanding is that it’s easier said than done. We can guess as to why some pitchers might be against it, such as ego and maybe even financial consideration as a SP's value might be diminished. But yeah, if a SP is not on board then it’s futile.
Guest, I have a big favor to ask you. We've been working very hard to establish ourselves on social media. If you like/follow our pages it would be a HUGE help to us.
