Last day of this terrible thread title but hopefully only because we move on to a new team.

Hard to argue that any player has been more important to the 2019 Yankees than DJ LeMahieu. Not only anchoring the lineup at the top, he has played 24 games at 1b, 62 at 2b, and 36 at 3b. This type of versatility has been paramount to Boone being able to structure the lineup and defense however he wants. It was a role that was sorely lacking after Torreyes was DFAd and now we have a batting title competitor. Thanks DJL!

Glad to have Thairo back. Hope he picks up where he left off in June. This is the infielder who played LF on short notice and acquitted himself well. Smart player, hit 3 HRs in 50 at-bats first time around. Estrada could be the future infield utility guy, or a valuable trade chip.

With the way the Yankees have been working their magic on hitters this year, I am somewhat confident he will be a .300 hitter with pop in the very near future.

Thairo took a .304 average into his last Yankee game, June 25, before going 0-for-4 against Toronto. That took him down to .280

If Thairo is going to keep up with his peers, he probably needs two XBH and one outstanding defensive play.

Get it done, Thairo!

With the big 4 game series against the Indians starting tomorrow, Boone would like to keep the good bullpen guys as fresh as possible so he can use them a lot this weekend, with an off day Monday. Also hoping the BOS/CLE game this afternoon goes 22 innings...

Classic Happ first inning of work. Just starts digging holes, until he’s sunk. Bases loaded and two outs. Already 1-0.

Limits the damage at least, but way too many pitches.

Let's score lots of runs.

The next 3 series are a good stress test for Boone. It's really the last tough stretch of the season except for 4 vs Bos and 2 vs TB. The Boston series is going to feel really weird if they are out of the playoff picure completely by then.

According to AtBat, there have been two pitches already in this game that are thigh high on the outside corner that were called balls. The ball four pitch by Happ and the 1-0 pitch to Sanchez.

The 1-0 to Sanzhez was poor framing, the catcher actually lunged to the outside for a pitch that was obviously a strike.

I didn’t see the Happ one but the Sanchez one was a crossup where the catcher had to lunge all the way across the plate, hard to call that.

Fourth inning now. Yanks, 4-2. Classic mediocre pitching matchup. Happ constantly in trouble, Bundy dominating after giving up a 3-run bomb to Sanchez in the first. Dead center perfect.
Classic Bundy. Bomb early, then what the hell, fire away. He’ll run out of gas in the fifth.

Bundy exits with two outs in sixth, still down, 4-2. Sanchez changed this game with one swing. He added a single in sixth.

Orioles creep to within 6-5 with 2 outs in 7th. Ottavino trying to get third out. It is a lot of work for Ottavino. He sweats, tugs on his cap, throws sliders on top of sliders. Finally gets his third out on a bad checked swing call.
Bottom of the seventh, 6-5.

BAL is mathematically clinched out of winning the division. So close, maybe next year. :)

Pitching matchups look to favor the Yankees vs Cleveland. Their rotation is not as fearsome as years past.

Yup, looking forward to CLE. And with regard to the O’s, they don’t seem to have a single bright spot in their organization.

Their farm is OK, Rutschman is already a top 10 overall prospect and they have some others. They don’t seem to have anything in place on the big league team yet, and the division is only going to get tougher.

Astros down 4 in 8th, 13-9. Little early for scoreboard watching.
They lost, it was 9-9 but Pressly came in and loaded the bases and then gave up a 2 out, 0-2 grand slam to McCann.

I don't think it's ever too early to scoreboard watch, but it's definitely worth keeping an eye on specific key players, and Pressly has come back to earth since NY hit him in mid-June, a 0.81 ERA before that, and 11 ERs in 14 innings since.

TB loses, so NY has a 10 game lead heading into this tough 10 game stretch.

The pennant race more resembles a lab experiment than a battle for most wins. The Yankees especially with all those injured players coming back. 10 games up provides a comfortable environment to work in.
