For those in SC who haven't seen The Precious up close & personal yet...

Angela Rodriguez ‏@NewsARODWYFF 2h
The World Series trophy is in town. You can take your pic @GreenvilleDrive stadium tonight.

I believe a randomly-drawn fan will also receive a full-body massage by these two Southern lasses with all sorts of exotic oils & lotions.

EDIT - The Drive just tweeted the official lowdown. Sadly, no mention of any massage, lasses, or lubricating fluids:

The Drive are excited to host the World Series trophy for the second time in franchise history, as the trophy also visited Fluor Field in 2008 following the Red Sox title in 2007.

The [2013] trophy will be on display in the Verizon Power Alley throughout the game, so be sure to stop by and take your picture with a piece of baseball and Red Sox history!

Weather's all clear here in greater DC, so Salem should get their double header in. I'll be arriving with 3 gorgeous blonds in tow around 7 pm, in what is usually an empty stadium if anyone else is planning to be there.

A 7-run fifth inning for the GCL Sox as they send 11 kids to the plate. Five singles, 2 walks, a double, an ROE, and 3 SB. LAx Basabe, Chavis & Ockimey have 2 hits apiece, and everyone in the lineup has scored a run except Victor Acosta. Surprisingly, Devers is the only batter not to reach base via hit or walk today.

Another solid outing for Dedgar Jimenez (5 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 5 K) to drop his ERA to 2.95.

* Margot leads off the b-1st with a single, steals 2nd, and Wendell Rijo goes yard to knock in a pair. But Rome ties it in the t-2nd against McGrath (leadoff walk, 2-run HR by Ross Wilson). Still tied t-3rd.

* Two solo dingers for Carlos Asuaje, and new starting catcher Jake Romanski (Weems just went on the DL) goes deep for a 2-run shot as Salem takes their opener. Joe Gunkel had a solid outing (5.2 IP, 2 ER, 6 H, 2 BB, 8 K). Game 2 getting underway now.

* Todd Cunningham greets Escobar with a "Welcome back from the majors" solo shot to lead off the Gwinnett 1st. In the t-3rd Derrik Gibson walks, Mookie singles him to 3rd, and Hassan gets him home on a SF. In the b-3rd the Braves retake the lead on consecutive doubles, but Mookie cuts down a runner at the plate on a sac fly attempt for an 8-2 inning-ending DP. Pawtucket ties it in the t-4th on a Shaw double, Cecchini infield hit, and Marrero RBI groundout. Still 2-2, b-5th.

* Chandler Shepherd turns in 3 shutout innings (1 H, 2 K) and the Spinners got a pair in the t-1st with 2 outs. A Jordan Betts single and an E-9 put him in scoring position, then Cisco Tellez singled him home before scoring on Jordan Procyshen's double. Lowell tacked on another in the t-3rd, all of it by Joseph Monge as he singles, steals 2nd & 3rd and scores on an errant throw by Brooklyn's catcher. 3-0 Spinners, t-5th.

Salem up 2 after 1/2 inning. 2 walks and 2 opposite field singles. As for the prospects, Gragnani with a patient walk, Terrible AB by Asuaje for a K, absolute rocket to line drive to deep CF for an out by Witte.

Greenville takes a 4-2 lead in the b-3rd. Carlos Coste singles, Margot doubles him to 3B, and TzuWei Lin rounds to 1B to plate Coste.

Rijo walked and stole 2B, and an errant throw scored Margot. Rijo also stole 3B but was stranded there.

Did you see any of the Game 1 HRs? Just curious how Asuaje & Romanski's swings look, what pitches they hit, quality of contact, etc.

Also interested in how Gunkel threw, which pitches he used for third strikes, etc.

Escobar really settled in after those B2B doubles in the 3rd. He goes 7 strong, 2 ER, 5 H (1 HR), 1 BB, 6 K, with 60 of 85 pitches for strikes, and he retired the last 9 batters he faced.

The PawSox push the lead run across in the t-8th. Gibson walks, steals 2nd, advances to 3rd on a Mookie foul fly to RF, and scores on a Bryce Brentz SF.

Ryan Verdugo on for Escobar, who's now in line for a 3-2 win.

Pat Light looks really good through 3. His stuff seems much better than his numbers. Live fastball with movement, getting hitters to chase secondary pitches out of the zone. He is having some trouble throwing them for strikes, so maybe that's his Achilles heel. We'll see as he goes through the order a second time.

Asuaje with a triple on a foul ground ball past first base. He's happy there's no instant replay in single-A.

His previous single was opposite field, so showing the ability to use the whole field.

Gragnani follows with a popup right down the left field line that the LF dives for and misses, resulting in another cheap triple.

Not anymore. Verdugo whiffs a pair, but a bunt single, a line single to center, and a bloop base hit to RF tie it up 3-3 as they head to the 9th.

PawSox fever, bitches. Lavarnway walks to lead off the t-9th, then is run for by Mike McCoy who takes 2B on a Cecchini sac bunt. Swihart doubles McCoy home, and the good guys are up 4-3 as they head to the bottom half.

Williams Jerez's wildness (1 H, 4 BB, HBP in 2 IP) allows Brooklyn to plate a pair in the 6th, but Carlos Pinales is able to nail down an abbreviated 3-2 Spinners win. The nightcap should get going at around 9:45 pm.

Despite a batter reaching first on a swinging K / wild pitch (I'll never understand why that rule is still part of this sport), Verdugo gets a GIDP to put away the Braves.

Light got hit increasingly hard in the 4th and 5th and lost it completely in the 6th. Even the out he got was a line drive. Still, has the fastball to be successful, perhaps a shift to relief is in his future.

Last observation: Witte played a solid 3b making everything look smooth, including coming in to field a bunt barehanded and strong throw to first.

  • Jantzen Witte called out on strikes.
  • Mario Martinez doubles (24) on a ground ball to left fielder Randolph Oduber.
  • Offensive Substitution: Pinch-runner Jose Vinicio replaces Mario Martinez.
  • Matt Gedman flies out to center fielder Isaac Ballou.

  • With Leonel Escobar batting, Aneury Tavarez steals (18) 2nd base.
  • Leonel Escobar walks.
  • Dreily Guerrero singles on a ground ball to shortstop Stephen Perez. Aneury Tavarez scores. Leonel Escobar to 2nd.
  • Matty Johnson singles on a ground ball to first baseman Estarlin Martinez. Leonel Escobar to 3rd. Dreily Guerrero to 2nd.
  • Carlos Asuaje singles on a line drive to right fielder Brandon Miller. Leonel Escobar scores. Dreily Guerrero scores. Matty Johnson scores on the throw.

Jonathan Aro allows a solo HR in the bottom half, but no matter. It's a 9-6 Salem win. The Sox minor league affiliates remain unbeaten today with Lowell's nightcap still in the balance.

If that was really your last observation, and you ended up leaving this game early, I will laugh my ass off.

No I stayed. Advantage of the girls being older now. It was a cool comeback to watch and a fun night but aided almost in full by bad baseball by the PNats as opposed to inspiring play by Salem.

Wish I'd been there for Asuaje 2 HRs in game 1.

A Nick Moore error does them in. That's the only loss in 8 games yesterday by Sox youngsters.
