Gotta keep the thread title going...

Another day, another player who has contributed to our success but wasn't part of the original blueprints. Cameron Maybin has played for 7 teams since 2014 (is that the most?) and has never been much of an offensive force. Aside from his 2016 with Detroit, he hasn't come particularly close to an .800 OPS in his career. Yet, here we are with a 917ops in 170ab. A first for an age 32 player who was struggling to catch on with a team. He has a strong twitter presence, fits well with the team, and is the epitome of "next man up" this year. Doing what is asked of him and just having a great year.

Thanks, Cam!

Saw a fun post on reddit

"The Dodgers play the Marlins at 7:10 and we play the Orilols at 7:05, giving us a 5 minute headstart to be the first team to 80. Lets go get it! #80watch"

We're still waiting on the corresponding player moves after Lail/Mantiply/Valera got sent down. NY was at 26 yesterday so 2 guys will be promoted, likely one position player (Thairo?) and one pitcher (I figured Loaisiga but the rumor on Twitter is Adonis Rosa, either would need a 40 man spot).

OK, there it is, Loaisiga activated (welcome back!), Adonis Rosa selected, Mantiply and Camarena DFAd/released. NY going with a 2 man bench for now, they have 14 pitchers currently.

The two man bench tonight is Gardner and Ford:

1B LeMahieu
RF Judge
3B Urshela
DH Sánchez
2B Torres
SS Gregorius
LF Maybin
C Romine
CF Tauchman

Chapman and probably Kahnle not available today based on usage, Chapman has gone two days in a row and Kahnle three of four.

Good lineup, and Judge batting second is a good thing. We’ve all posted about him being off from the Judge we expect, but the good news is that he remains productive because he gets on base a lot and scores run that way. His August OBP is .396, not stellar but pretty good considering the circumstances.

Maybin goes for the full hug of teammates after home runs. Pretty sure this is the most enjoyable season of his career.

Referencing a recent Abbey post, Minnesota leads NYY 228-217 in the home run race but the Twins have lost Nelson Cruz for a few weeks. Yanks on pace for around 300 homers. Maybe Stanton will hit 10 in September as DH.

It's pretty incredible how NY has closed this gap and passed all of the other teams ahead of them with very little help from Stanton or Judge.

I kind of feel bad for John Means. Has had a really good year for Baltimore and is a bright spot for them, except for his Yankees starts.

Yikes. Allow me to switch up the "Means" jokes. During his last start, I randomly thought of legendary Chargers running back Natrone Means, and now I can't stop thinking "Natrone" whenever the announcers say "Means".

Great AB by Tauchman. His plate discipline gives me confidence that he isn't a total flash in the pan.

Loved the video of Tauchman cutting the bases and scoring fairly easily on Judge’s double to left. Tauchman has good speed and great base running fundamentals.

Tauchman is a bit like Judge. His ABs often go to 3-2, no matter how they start. He runs the bases well.i have no problem in an 8-2 game trying to put pressure on the Orioles.

Joel Sherman wrote today that the Yankees’ next 10 games are against three of baseball’s top pitching staffs — Indians, Dodgers and A’s. He sees this as a bit of a playoff preview. And a test of this versatile offense.

Getting Judge on track is almost necessary.

Gio needs 155 PAs in the remaining 41 games, so it's possible but not easy.
