7/5 - A very rested Tanaka

I don’t need to look it up because I’m pretty certain his London start was the worst of his career. If it wasn’t, it might as well be. For all the things that have gone right this year, Tanaka and Happ remain somewhat of a coin flip because of the amount of home runs they are letting up. In 17 starts, he has allowed 14 hrs. If he can correct his tendency to leave a hanging meatball over the plate a couple times per game, I would feel a lot better about his place in a playoff rotation.

Opposing him is Ohtani Jr. The two-way phenom with the arm that has developed much faster than his bat. Brendan McKay is very good. Just another damn good young player who the Rays have to bolster their team. Snell, Glasgow, Honeywell, McKay.... They aren’t going anywhere.

Why, yes, DJ LeMahieu is leading 2 of the 3 Triple Crown categories (BA, tied in RBIs) on July 5.

Aaron Judge faced McKay a few weeks ago in one of his AAA rehab games, Judge went 0-2 as McKay threw 5 dominant innings but at least he has faced him.

Snell tomorrow. Didi should sit, Torres to short. Then Torres rests on Sunday?

35 pitches for McKay through 2, he is on a 85 pitch cap. Work those counts, boys.

Gardner has run about two miles already tonight in CF, chasing down three liners in the gap. And just missing a fourth.

McKay at 61 pitches entering the 5th, would be great if they could get him out after this inning.

The rookie has already passed his test. Smooth delivery, great control, good stuff. Doing this against a strong lineup, too.
Gleyber singles leading off the fifth. Let’s see how McKay pitches out of the stretch. Oops. Gio pops out on first pitch.

1 pitch pop up for Urshela, less beautiful.

Brett, this is what you do. I want 8 pitches in this AB unless he walks you first.

Or keep singling on the first pitch, that works too. Tauchman!!

McKay should be done, good job by him coming back and getting DJ and Judge to end the inning. 83 pitches through 5, 3 runs, I think he gets a 'B' for that. As Terry said, he has barely pitched from the stretch in his first two games and he struggled that inning once Gleyber got on.

Tanaka at 90 pitches through 6. Probably no Chapman tonight, another inning would be great.

All of the top guys have been used a lot this past week, I wonder if they are all off limits tonight, hence Cortes Jr there.

No question. With a 9-game lead in the loss column, Boone is already managing for the long haul.

Hicks ties it with a homer in the pinch.

Yeah, he’s looking pretty confident at the plate. Such a good-looking athlete. Former first-round pick, another salvage job by Cashman and the Yankees.
Was just coming here to say this. Someone else needs to pick up the baton and Hicks looks ready
