The schedule is blessing us with a 5pm start. This essentially means that you will be able to celebrate a Yankees victory right before the fireworks start.

I was thinking about what to write in this thread but I was coming up empty. Then I thought about why I had nothing to say and it dawned on me. The Rays really have been an innocuous opponent to the Yankees over the years. They are a solid team every year who beats us up a few times and we beat them up a few times but for a division opponent, they really haven't done much to impact my way of thinking about them. Shoot, the better they are, the more they keep the Sox out of contention. So, I got nothing Rays. I mean, I still want Aaron Judge to hit a moonshot through the top of your stupid stadium but otherwise, there's no juice here. Just stay better than the Red Sox and we're cool. Also, lose to us.

So with Voit and Stanton out, NY misses their bats, but they can play their top defensive team a lot in this series on the turf, Urshela at 3B/DJ at 1B/Encarnacion at DH/Gardner in LF. That is of course assuming Urshela is OK, he did not travel with the team to Tampa tonight but stayed in NY for treatment on his cramping rear and plans to meet them there tomorrow, fingers crossed.

The Trop sucks normally, but it’s especially awful on the Fourth of July to not even be able to have fireworks after the game. A baseball game on the Fourth without fireworks might as well be played in some crazy god-forsaken foreign land where they don’t celebrate the Fourth, never defeated the British and don’t even speak English. Hmm.

I grew up in the 70s/80s so I would take Metro North down into the city and then the 6 to Canal and buy all my fireworks there from Mrs. Ting's on that creepy corner down Mott or some guy in an alley. SO WORTH IT

Brandon Lowe onto the DL, that should maybe open up an All-Star berth for Gleyber. Nate Lowe up, TB also flips long men again, Pruitt down and Faria up.

Kid as an absolute superstar. Defensively, offensively, the way he carries himself, the joy he shows while playing. Nothing bad you can possibly say about him and he's 22!

Also, in case nobody has followed, Michael Kay will be out for about a month. He's having a surgery to correct a vocal cord issue. Apparently he was having trouble for a bit and it would get worse if not fixed.

Good move giving Judge a day also. I'm not saying we have a comfortable lead by any stretch, but the injury bug is biting so hard that I really don't mind protecting our guys a bit. Plus, we have the depth.

Gleyber had never played above Class A when the Yankees traded for him. Probably greatest Yankee trade since Babe Ruth.

It’s all about the turf! Imagine playing on that stuff 81 times a year.

Fine with the nine guys in the lineup, but I do question Ford playing 1B over Encarnacion.

Urshela stayed in NY to get a MRI which came back clean, and they expect him there by game time.

Pretty nervous about this series, and also I’m kind of sick of hearing about Sanchez’s allegedly improved defense as his continued poor framing costs his pitchers strikes. He clunked a 2-0 strike there and Happ had to groove one on 3-1, RBI double.

Happ looked sharp for about 12 pitches, striking out Meadows for the second out, then fell behind Garcia 3-0. Double to center on a 3-1 pitch that scored a run.

It would be completely in line with this season for Mike Ford to sizzle for a week until Voit returns. Nice hard-hit single to single and later scores on a Tauchman single. This team is about 30 deep right now.

Speaking of 30 deep, Thairo Estrada homered and doubled last night for Scranton in a 5-3 win at Pawtucket. He batted fourth and played second base. Hitting .266. Clint Frazier went 1-for-5 out of the leadoff spot. Scranton leads the IL North by 5.5 games over Buffalo.

Gleyber coasts under a pop fly, waving off Tauchman with his glove, smiling as he makes an over the shoulder catch.

I love Didi, but between the errant SB attempt Tuesday and a bunt today, that is not what I like to see. Doesn’t matter if they work or not, can’t beat the odds every go.

Gleyber has beat up on Baltimore pitching this season but it’s interesting to note his stats against other bad teams: KC, .148 BA, .432 OPS. Detroit, .083 BA, .167 OPS.
Good teams: Houston, .208 BA, .708 OPS. Tampa, .286 and .839. Boston, .333 and .892.
Interleague: .372 and 1.028.
The Baltimore numbers are Ruthian: .465 and 1.173, 10 homers in 12 games. Just 13 RBI.

Coup, I meant to tell you that I saw the other day that defensive analytics have our boy Voit as the worst defensive 1B in MLB so far this year. I don't think it's a major problem a la Andujar or Clint but it's worth noting.

NY goes to the better defensive infield, Gio in at 3B, DJ to 1B, Ford out.

Easier to groove a 3-2 fastball with that infield behind you, inning over.

More runs, please.

Faria in, he was just called back up today. Let's punish him.
