It sure does look like the deadline passing has woken these guys up.

Heh, he didn't swing, but understandable under the circumstances (everyone wants to stop standing in the rain).

I think the players relax as the deadline passes because they know they don’t have to say goodbye to a teammate.

No trades is also a vote of confidence for the guys in this locker room. Sure, Houston is now the odds-on AL favorite, but there’s nothing wrong with being overlooked. Yankees can use that to their advantage, as many teams do.

No trades also means Deivi and Florial remain in pinstripes with more time to blossom.

I think it's more that they don't have to say goodbye themselves, but yeah, NY certainly has the talent to go far still, depending on who is actually healthy.

Jones just misses a HR foul on Chapman's first pitch, his second is 100 up and in.

At this point, I expect Gio to make these plays. Andujar would've had no chance.
It's unbelievable how consistently accurate he is while falling away into foul territory. I know there are other 3B like that (Machado) but I sure do not remember NY having one of them for a long long time.

He’s a better third baseman than Brosius, who was pretty nifty himself.

The best Yankee 3B in my lifetime was Clete Boyer.

Didn't matter but that was an impressive throw from Tauchman, a strike to 2B from deep in the corner.

I don't feel good about Chapman at all, now or going forward. Betances needs to get back.

He needs consistent work and just isn't getting it. I think he needs to get into a couple games in a row to find a groove. Always suffered when he gets more than 1-2 days off

Yeah, I think they've been trying to not use him too much, which makes sense longer-term (he should be better later in the season) but has hurt him this past week.

A little late inning ugliness doesn't change a thing: today was a good day.

1) Yankees won.
2) Didi and Gio escaped serious injury.
3) Despite not having his best stuff, Tanaka battled through it well enough to keep his job. :)

Now BOS has two tough games against TB (tonight and tomorrow) while NY can rest a bit and wait for BOS to get here Friday night.

The opposite of last week’s setup. Still, the Yankees have to play better, pitch better, hit better. Play with more urgency. They have been back on their heels, taking too many punches. To beat Boston, the whole team has to contribute in any way they can.

Yes, they have to continue to play better collectively. The SP has begun to turn it around after that abysmal stretch and over the last three games they have pitched 15.1 innings with a 4.77 ERA. Not great, but not bad.

It's exciting to see how creative the team will be regarding pitching since no impact arm was acquired at the deadline. It would be nice to see Green open for Paxton for an inning and later on if Severino is not fully stretched to open for him for 2 innings. Hypothetically, that could be 5 innings between Sevy and Green and then give it to the BP.

Maybe in September, Deivi Garcia can open a game or two, just to get his feet wet in the big leagues.

I share your excitement at what may be, by necessity, an innovative approach to pitching in October.

Awesome stat from Katie Sharp:

"Mike Tauchman in July: .423 BA/.750 SLG

Only other Yankees in last 30 years with at least .420 BA and .700 SLG in any calendar month are Bernie Williams (June 2001) and
@PaulONeillYES (April 1994).

The last Yankee to do it in July was Joe DiMaggio in 1937."
