So we got some guys, we gave up some guys, and we still have to play the Rays tonight.

Here goes.

It's Casey Stengel's birthday. Somebody on the main board or a game thread was talking about what an asshole he was. I was surprised to find that for a guy who played half of his career during the dead-ball era, he managed to hit 60 career home runs, including a high of 9 in 1920.

I also read on some tweet or another that the Sox brought Jonathan Arauz down to Tampa as a taxi-squad player. With Chavis gone, he could be helpful.

So yeah, this is game one without Michael. I'm crossing myself now.

The Sox charter flight landed at St. Petersburg at 4AM this morning. They probably hit their pillows after 5AM. Hopefully they can bounce back after last night's beat down!

Hoping the Sox can get on a bit of a roll, not only because it's against the Rays but also to give them confidence in the wake of a tepid (for them) trade deadline. All the other AL East teams made bigger moves, and now the Yanks get to feast on some bad teams for a few weeks, while the Jays start a series against the Royals. My fear is that if the Sox lose a couple, they could spiral a bit and lose confidence, and maybe even feel resentful that the front office didn't do more at the deadline. Hoping Cora can get them over that hump.

Just feels like we’re destined to squabble about the trade deadline within the context of an ugly series against the Rays.

I'm not great at seeing every tweet from Red Sox Reporters - what is the status of Devers' injury? Is this something we need to be worried about

I dunno. I know how easy it is to be overly reactionary. But seeing Gallo and Rizzo in the Yankee lineup tonight and then our pathetic line up for this huge series against the Rays really has me mad at Bloom. The one guy he traded for isn't even available to help immediately. I truly do not know what he was thinking not upgrading first base.

Again, what's the word on Devers' injury? Is this going to be a season long thing? Should he just be on the IL?

That was a little nothing cutter over the plate JD popped up. With him and Xander struggling and no Devers, they're gonna need some pitching performance.

Our starting pitching has suuuuuuckEd for quite a while now. Too many issues with this team imo that a 1B wouldn’t fix.
I should cut my tongue out for saying this, but if we couldn't add a top line starter, I wish we would've been in a position to move guys like JD and bullpen pieces. I'm guessing Bloom would've really liked that too. Really could've cleaned up. Too many holes is right.

Yeah in this market I’m sure Bloom half wishes he could have been a seller. Would have been nice to further accelerate the improvement of the system.
