Law of averages said the Red Sox were about due to smack the Yanks around. Go ahead, pile on. It’s one game in a long season.

I'm a little concerned that Tanaka may have an injury of some kind.
His splitter has been missing for most of the season. That was his out pitch. He has been relying on curves and located fast balls to get by. Tonight he could not locate anything. His velocity was normal, around 92-93. Doubt he is hurt, except for his feelings, and his confidence.

You're probably right. Your comment about his splitter isn't very reassuring though. I hope he's not having UCL concerns again and just trying to get by.

I think he struggles with his grip and the feel for that pitch. Not unusual for pitchers to lose a pitch for a month but they find it at some point. To lose your bread and butter pitch is a big problem.

Besides the putrid pitching, Yanks just came in flat after an emotional series in Minnesota. As Abbey pointed out, they reached Boston at 6 in the morning. No excuses but the outcome tonight is not surprising. The score is, but the odds favored Boston tonight. In 2019, the Sox tend to follow up decisive wins with flat performances. Maybe they break that trend tomorrow night.
Anyway, I am done here. Nothing to see.

Remy just remarked, it's a shame you can only get one win out of this game, exactly....no point in getting down on the team in such a rout...if only we had an expendable body we could send to the mound to pitch til his arm fell off...

The Twins hit 4 HRs off Giolito tonight, that makes me feel a bit better somehow.

A little odd to not leave Cessa in for a third inning, he only threw 18 pitches.

A couple of big wins by crow before tonight at least, I'm up next and I am awful this year. So maybe I'm due?

Would be good if they could make Eovaldi throw a lot of pitches at least.

That one could have gone either way, just a few dozen well placed hits away.

Get some sleep and come back angry, boys.

Some optimism:

He’s not even on a mound yet, he was throwing from 75 feet today.
