Who would have that going to Fenway would provide a respite? By no means does that mean these games will be easier, they almost certainly will not. However, leaving ASMR stadium is a good thing.

These are very important games for Boston. For them to climb back into the division race, they need to take at least 3 of 4 in each of their upcoming 4 games series against NY. Devers has turned into a beast so I'm gonna expect him to take Tanaka deep at least once today.

We should be able to get to Porcello, who comes into this start with a 10.57 ERA over his last 5 starts. If we get him out of the game early, it could set the tone for the rest of the series. W

This of course is a rematch of the two starters in the first London game that was 6-6 after the first inning.

These teams'lineups are evenly matched and are 1 and 2 in AL team OPS with NY at .818 and Boston .806. NY leads in HR but Boston leads in 2B and 3B.

Like last year though, we've only seen about 5 games with our actual full lineup of projected starters. (hi Giancarlo!! hi Gardner!! Hi Voit!! Hi Sanchez!!)

Gardner onto the DL, Stephen Tarpley back. That gives NY 11 position players and 14 pitchers for this game, I am looking at the roster and I am really not sure what NY would do if one of their 3 OFs has to leave this game. Maybe DJ to the OF? Yoiks. Presumably Maybin will be back tomorrow for a pitcher but this is a bit risky...

Anyone can stand in the outfield and catch a ball, right? :)

Those 11 position players include Encarnacion, who we last saw limping around the bases, he is in the lineup at DH.

We had almost a month with no real injury curse. I become increasingly unhappy with these progressions from 'not serious' to 'day to day' to 'almost ready to return' to..IL. Either the medical department is incompetent, or simply incapable of responding with anything resembling honest accurate updates. That being said, as long at Brett doesn't turn into another Severino/Stanton situation, an enforced rest should make him fresh and fade resistant in the post-season

Honestly I think with both Sanchez and Gardner they are using the luxury of the big division lead to try to get them some rest. Not saying they don't have issues, but they might try to play through them if BOS and NY were tied currently.

and we are about to see if Jon's continued enthusiam for Kyle is warranted, I remain dubious
I would say cautious optimism more than enthusiasm, but he is another 29 year old (like Tauchman) who has been killing it in AAA and I am glad to see him get a chance, especially with Sanchez seemingly locked in a death spiral before getting hurt.

In his defense, two singles were routine ground outs if not for the shift. But to come out nibbling, falling behind in counts, it’s enough to make Coup suicidal.

Modern baseball. Long at-bats. Lousy pitching. Lots of runs. Lots of action.

The Astros must be feeling pretty good because they’re the only team with elite pitching.

Ah well, another run or three would have been nice, but I don't think the scoring is done. Of course that is probably true for Boston too.

The good news is that took long enough that Tarpley is now here, no joke, he just walked in.

Porcello actually had a 47 pitch inning in 2013, tied for his career most.

Short inning for Porcello, right back out there, that can't be easy.

The difference with Encarnacion is he was right and Holt was wrong. Check the tape, Alex.

Pretty sick of watching Voit take fastballs in the zone with two strikes.

Tanaka ties his career worst with 8 ERs allowed, brutal turn for all five SPs this past time through.

Masahiro Tanaka is 2nd pitcher in Yankees history to allow 12+ ER in a game. The other was Carl Mays in on July 17, 1923 (13 ER).

Paused this one at 8-2 so at least I missed some of the carnage. I'll check the score again later and see if it's worth catching up.

FWIW (not too much), NY got in at 6 AM today after that crazy Twins series. BOS had a relatively peaceful (Angel Hernandez excepted) afternoon game before flying home.
