I'm gonna have to take a melatonin to fall asleep tonight. Every at-bat for the last 90 minutes was just nail-biting.

I'm not sure I have any game thread juice left after this one.

Dude, I owe you! I have never had to do that before, I can watch other games on my phone but Yankees are blacked out and my signal just died somehow after Didi's single.
yeah the reddit MLB streams thread is a lifesaver bcs I'm blacked out of Yanks games on MLB.com. Although I'm expecting to be renditioned by the Time Warner black ops any day now

I forgot we came back from 8-2. The story of this game is really all Yankees. Twins blew so many leads.

I have only seen the one angle (it is close) but I'll weigh in later. The side view usually shows those deep flies better, the depth is often deceptive.
I thought he had it lined up all the way. I love Hicks but JBJ would have caught it in his back pocket.

I hope Michael Kay didn't do any involuntary damage to his vocal cords watching at home.

There's a guy out in the Twins bullpen prematurely celebrating while the ball is in the air, and it looks like Hicks is staring him down right afterwards. Love it.

Higashioka has been awesome in Scranton, he is the best all-around defensive one of the three, I believe, and he has a .924 OPS with 16 HRs in 179 ABs in AAA this year. Gary could use some time off and come back charged for the stretch run.

NY 7-21 and MIN 4-16 with RISP, it is crazy to have that many chances combined in a ten inning game.

“This was just the 2nd MLB game in the last 40 years in which there was a blown lead in the top of the 8th, bottom of the 8th, top of the 9th and bottom of the 9th; it also happened on 7/17/2000 (Col def Oak).”

Britton gave up a 450 go-ahead bomb and still was I think the best pitcher on either team in the final three innings, NY outscored MIN 9-3 from the 8th on, 9-6 if Hicks doesn't get to that last one.

Mike Axisa makes a good point, Cortes Jr. is starting tomorrow in AAA but has not been down 10 days yet, so Sanchez to the DL along with Holder sent down (only possibility, I think, he doesn’t deserve it) allows them to bring back Cortes Jr. along with Higashioka.

“Aaron Hicks ran at 27.4 feet/second on the game-ending catch, according to @statcast. That’s the fastest he has run on an out he’s recorded this season. Also covered a distance of 74 feet on the play.”

Re Didi. The old saying is "You never want to be the guy who follows the guy". Turns out that's incomplete. The rest of the saying is "unless you are the guy, in which case it doesn't matter." So what's the definition of 'the guy'? When you're in a club and the only other members wore numbers 3 and 6 ... you are the fucking guy.

A lot of heros in this one, obviously led by Didi and Hicks, but a few crucial plays which will be overlooked:

1) Two outs in the top of the 9th and MIN up 11-10, Tauchman gets down 0-2 on a bad call not close, but manages to work a walk. Hicks puts the next pitch over the LF fence, 12-11 NY.

2) LeMahieu had his first AB of the game after coming in late leading off the 10th. In the box score, it is a groundout to 2B, but in reality it was a 108 MPH grounder that caromed off the pitcher to the 2B. Possibly a bit rattled or thrown off by that, the next three batters singled plus a wild pitch, 14-12 NY.

Gehrig wore 4 but your point is taken.

That was easily the best game of the baseball season last night. Instant classic. I don’t think the Twins recover from that one,
Your call on TB is looking pretty good currently, but I think the Twins will be fine. Their schedule gets easier again after today and they'll get some kind of pitching help before the deadline.
