I think NY should have everyone in the bullpen except Tarpley and maybe Hale, Chapman still hasn't pitched since the game he blew to TB on Monday.

Another similarly hot day and another 1 PM start, with the heat index sitting around 110 for most of the game. Between that and the inside pitches today (and the one that hit Voit in the chin), I'm saying there is about a 30 percent chance of benches clearing during this one.

Everyone jokes: if the benches clear, no one wants to fight the Yankees with their twin giants, Judge and Stanton. But wtf, how do you fight Voit? Forget the fact that he bench presses a barbell with one hand, he's also clearly a 200+ pound piece of iron just shaped into human form.

Baseball players rarely throw punches. The main excitement is when a hitter charges the mound. Does the catcher slow him down, or does he let the batter get a head start? In the end, players still police themselves. Paxton may hit someone in the ass if he gets a five-run lead but there’s no reason to wake up the Rockies.

1. DJ LeMahieu (R) 3B
2. Aaron Judge (R) RF
3. Aaron Hicks (S) CF
4. Edwin Encarnacion (R) DH
5. Gary Sanchez (R) C
6. Didi Gregorius (L) SS
7. Luke Voit (R) 1B
8. Gleyber Torres (R) 2B
9. Brett Gardner (L) LF

In case you thought Luke might sit, clearly you don't know our Mongo....
Gardner scratched with a barking knee, not too serious and he is available off the bench. In possibly related news, Cameron Maybin will start his rehab assignment in AAA on Tuesday, so he should be ready by the end of the week.

With Paxton, the whole just doesn't quite seem to match the sum of his parts. Talented, and still with plenty of good results, but not what he could be.

You know what? Paxton is off today, sure, but he's gotten lousy run support for a while now. The guys need to pick him up today. It's early. Get after it.

The interesting split to me is that he has the best ERA in the league after the first inning, in the 2.4 range. He has been a bit disappointing so far, agreed, but there's still time.

This is where I am at. Get this guy fixed for September and beyond. Can they rest him at all? Is the knee injury a factor?

I forgot about the knee. He does look uncomfortable out there, maybe his knee is part of that. Or maybe he always looks that way. I dunno.

I don't mind a loss, but this is going to really weaken the bullpen going into a tough week of games @MIN and @BOS.

NY minor league teams are all getting pounded currently too, I'm chalking it up to the baseball gods being angry about Mariano being voted in unanimously. :)

Haven't watched much of this one so far, but the Yankee rally starts here.

NY's three minor league teams playing currently are losing by a combined 24-5, not our day.

Does Andujar and Frazier get us Boyd?
Not sure what value Andujar has until he comes back, it would take Frazier plus a couple of other pieces and it doesn't seem like the right move for NY. Boyd has a 6.08 ERA since the start of June (8 starts), .872 OPS allowed. If NY is going to make a move for someone, it needs to be someone who is clearly a top 4 guy for them right now, and I don't think that's Boyd. Most of the other guys rumored make more sense IMO, but I'm not sure if Cashman can get one at a price he can live with.

The way I look at October, the Yanks can bullpen almost every game, assuming Betances and Seve come back and both go into the pen. The starters are Tanaka, Paxton, German and CC. By the fourth inning, Boone starts up the bullpen. Why not use Seve as a three-inning opener? And Betances for two more. This is the deepest bullpen ever. Use it as the strength it is.

Just get them healthy, those two relievers.
