Cash worked his bullpen so hard the last two nights, he had nobody left for Didi.
All the matchups and clever bullpen management in the world can't make up for a lack of quality arms. Once Castillo and Alvarado tanked, they had no go to guys and everything fell apart.

Stands to reason that bullpen by committee is going to wear out the relievers. So maybe they try to trade for a couple relievers later this month. Will Pittsburgh even answer their phone calls?

Just catching up, order has been restored. Welcome back, Didi!

I’d be pitching around Judge to get to Voit. He just misses the foul pole on 3-2 pitch. So they pitch to him again and Judge goes deep. 4-3.
Yeah, this was as dumb as last night in reverse, I need to see the pitch again, it looked right on the line but I think you can't even be close with how bad Voit was looking (even though he and Gary got hits then).

Hahaha. I wish it were that complicated. This Rays bullpen is garbage. No lead is safe. How many times are they going to be up by one and then give up a 6 run inning??
I was going to say this too, it is like their 'outs covered for that night' hits a wall in the 9th or the 10th sometimes (or the 8th tonight). The guy they got from TEX looks like he has potential, but they should give up someone legit for a year and a half of Giles ASAP.

Also going back to last night, I get that you want to leave Snell with a strong outing here to build confidence, but at 93 pitches after 5 last night, I was surprised they pulled him and maybe that came back to hurt them tonight.

Also CC is owed a dinner or two from Boone after that yelling back and forth with Garcia after the sixth, what looked like pushing something mostly to get the slumbering team riled up. 7-0 NY after that, CC gets a manager win there.

Buck Showalter in the YES studio the last couple of games, his knowledge seems to be well past his communication skills currently, but I would love to listen to him in the booth for a few games and see. Willie Randolph is the guy they need to get back, he was good in spring training...

Yep. That's exactly it. You need a deeper bullpen if you're going to pull off the limiting starters/bulkers innings thing. They need at least 2 more reliable arms. Maybe the dude from Tex fills a slot, but at minimum one more. They do not have a shutdown guy at all right now. I have a feeling the front office is on the fence about investing too heavily in this season, though. They are not going to catch NY and they're a year ahead of schedule generally. Do you spend $$/prospects to make a wild card run or do you keep your powder dry for next year?

Give Garcia credit, too. He could have ignored CC but chose to say something back when CC stared him down. CC was just being CC.
How come Boone pulled CC after 6 innings when his pitch count was still low? With a short bullpen. It worked, thanks to David Hale.

Giles would be through 2020, a proven AL East lockdown guy who you could put in as a conventional closer and move everyone else up a notch. TB can't protect close to everyone anyway this winter, they could get Shane Greene cheaper (who I like too) but Giles is really good IMO, or they could even get both. NY clearly does not need a seventh closer type (including Green and Betances) but part of me is still hoping Cashman gets one.

Yelling back and forth after striking out the final Ray batter he may ever face seemed like the right way to end that subset of CC's career, even if he was losing. This was his 53rd career start against them, most against any team.

You're right, it's what they need. Everyone knows that and asking prices will be high. We'll see what they can pull off.

31 runs allowed in 11 games for NY since coming back from London. German being back is a double boost as I predicted, not just maybe their best SP but allows Green go from opener to a 5th lockdown reliever.

The pitch Didi crushed for the grand slam was the highest pitch anyone in MLB has homered on this year, sometimes you feel bad for the pitcher:

I hope I will get at least a half playoff share for the guaranteed Yankee victories every time abbey calls me in for a game thread.

I thought he was serving an 80 game suspension for PEDs
This is true, but he is still eligible for the postseason due to complicating factors*.

*He won (lost) the clincher in 2009, not only giving NY the World Series win but ending Pedro's career.

A lot of ways NY could go with the 26th man today, Thairo Estrada, Clint Frazier, Mike Ford, Tarpley, Harvey, all potentially helpful, but I will guess Chance Adams if they want a pitcher (it's his rotation day and he threw 95 pitches last time) or Tyler Wade if they want a position player (hitting .394 in 71 ABs since June 28, raising his OPS from .744 to . 815).

Looks like most or all of the bad weather has passed through, at least. Gonna be a long day even without delays...
