I forgot about Beni when I wrote about pitch selection. It’s difficult to watch these games.

This season feels like the 2017 ALDS against Houston. Scratch out a run or two, and the other team hits an instant bomb. It’s not like we’re embarrassing ourselves every game, but we’re clearly not good enough to win.

Travis has had good stretches in PAW before. B ut when he comes up he turns into a pumpkin. He's shown us nothing at the ML level.
He's also had bad stretches in Pawtucket.

My view is that the biggest gap between levels is between full-season A-ball and AA. Given enough opportunities, a player who is good in AAA should be okay in MLB. A player who is good in AA should be okay in AAA.

That's not at all true of A+ to AA: the advanced breaking pitches and reliable defenses and mature approaches from hitters means that a lot of players don't make that jump.

(edited to add: this is all to say, I don't believe in AAAA players.)

Meanwhile, Darwinzon is looking naaaaaaaasty.

I really like the depth on Darwinzon's slider, and I like that he feels like he doesn't have to throw harder than 94-5.

I’ve learned this year how hard it is to repeat. Baseball’s such a mental game. That’s why the Dodgers and Yankees are doing so well. They’re starving for the main course while the Red Sox are sated.

A beautiful sport. Unlike the others.

I'm resigned at this point. they just aren't good enough. I thought at worst coming into this year a WC was guaranteed, but that'll teach me. they could turn it on at any time and get that WC spot, but time is running out.

time to think about the next core for the early 2020s. all three outfielders have question marks.

Do the Blue Jays bring their own bat boys on the road? Where did that kid come from?
