At some point, when a lot of your pitchers are not hurt but mysteriously underperforming, it makes me wonder what's going on. I think Bannister's approach to pitch repertoires has been reverse-engineered by other teams' analytics departments, and so we're a bit more predictable to them — not as much as if a pitcher was tipping, but enough to hurt.
He had huge framing numbers, especially in 2014. It seems like the league tightened that up, so the difference between better and worse framers is less than it was five years ago.Honestly I think his defensive rep was overrated based on his success gunning guys down when he first came up.
