It's because Grichuk hits him well and the Yankee bullpen is very well rested, plus Ottavino has been warming a while already so need to use him.

Adam, if you can't keep guys from stealing, you can't let guys get on base in a one run game.

Great job, clearly he wanted no part of Sogard but he got the Ks before and after.

Kind of a slap in the face to Ottavino but Kahnle is better against lefties. Ottavino has a .765 OPS pitching to lefties.

Lefty hitters are always a threat in pinstripes. I like the kid. He sure had a lot to say in the dugout to Voit and Gardner. They couldn't shut him up.

Gio almost got one.

OK, Chapman, do your thing. He threw a ton of sliders in the ASG and made people look silly, I wonder if he will do that again now.

OK, that series was harder than it should have been, but 2 out of 3 is solid. Next up: Tampa Bay, yet again.

Mike Tauchman: 6 Defensive Runs Saved in 315.2 innings. That's a rate of 19 DRS per 1000 innings. Among OF with 300+ innings, only player with higher rate is Cody Bellinger (26.8).

Great stat, Jon. Tauchman just looks like the perfect outfielder, tall and fast, runs great routes.

One thing about Toronto. I appreciate this is a bad team but they do not seem to have given up. Maybe they will in September. Right now, they have a few young players who have high ceilings. Vladdy, obviously.. Sogard, for sure. Galvis is a solid veteran who still hustles.

Baltimore has given up. Front office and players.

Not to nitpick, but BAL hasn't given up, players or front office. Players are as untalented a collection as we have maybe ever seen, I am always surprised when they win. Front office is a new regime who is trying to build when there is/was so so little to build on. TOR I like what they are doing and they still haven't brought up Bichette, this is why I'd prefer not to give them another young good bat in Clint Frazier unless it is really necessary, I really don't relish facing him 19 times a year.

So it's a little strange as NY and TB have already played 13 times in the past two months (NY 9-4), but this four game set starting tomorrow is one of NY's most important remaining series remaining against anyone, they only play two more after this. Snell/Paxton first up, let's rumble.

Good point about the Orioles. They are historically bad. Like what you say about Toronto.

Tampa should be a good test. Their pitching versatility is setting new standards in the era of openers and strong bullpens. If Snell gets back on track, they could push NY to the finish line.

Yankees seem so much better this year than last because of DJ and Gio and German but last year’s team wasn’t too shabby, winning 100 games. A quick glance at 2018 showed a team ERA of 3.77. Yanks around 4.10 this year. I guess the pitching was better last year. They also had a full season of Stanton and Andujar’s bat. But Sanchez was MIA.
