DSL1 walk-off with an 11-inning, 4-3 victory.

Boxscore

Jesus Rosillo relinquished one run on one hit, three walks, two wild pitches, and a balk over four frames; striking out a quartet. Yoelvis Guedez gave up one run on two hits over two innings; whiffing one. Osvaldo De La Rosa yielded one hit and uncorked a wild pitch while striking out the side in the seventh. Luis Colmenares gave up two walks and struck out six over three frames. Jose Larez let in the ghost runner in the 11th, on a single and two wild pitches.

[Although the boxscore is being consistently updated, it currently shows that Colmenares is being charged with the unearned run despite not pitching in the 11th. My assumption is that will change and go to Larez... I believe it is a weird artifact of the order the processing was put in. In other words, the runner was placed on second base to start the inning and then Larez replaced Colmenares which charges Colmenares with the run. However, the real order is that Larez began the inning as the pitcher (Colmenares did not come out of the dugout and stand on the mound and the manager did not come in to replace him) and then the runner was placed on base.]

Ceddanne Rafaela ripped a single and a double and stole a base in five contests. Erick Flores flipped a single and walked twice in five excursions. Luis Mota and Jose Mejias each managed a single and a base on balls in five matchups. Jesus Maita dropped a sacrifice bunt and hit a single in five jaunts. Fabian Andrade singled once and was plunked by a pitch in five forays. Gilberto Jimenez garnered a walk and the game-winning single in six junkets. Brandon Rincones dropped a sacrifice bunt and was hit by a pitch in five battles. Carlos Sanchez took a pitch for the team and stole a base in his five sessions.

It must have been a Cherington thing - but starters in Lowell used to only go a few innings at most. I've noticed this year they are going 5 or 6. Must be a change in philosophy.

I'm not sure even in the Theo era it was even a edict about innings. It just worked out that way. For example, with Brian Brown... he has had five starts. It is his first season and he pitched nearly 100 innings for NC State. In his five starts, he has gone: 2 2/3, 4, 4, 5, and 5. However... perhaps the more important number is the pitch count. Which has been 55, 59, 55, unknown (but likely in the 50s given he did not give up a hit in five innings, walking two and striking out 3), and 68.

Every other true starter (so ignoring Thad Ward) is in at least their second professional season. But, again, pitch counts seem to be the factor more than innings.

Alexander Montero (2nd season): 5, 5, 4, 5 1/3 - 74, 73, 78, 73
Eduard Bazardo (4th season): 4, 5, 6, 5, 6, 6 - 81, 79, 68, 74, 68, 76
Hunter Haworth (2nd season - started year in Greenville) : 5, 3, 6, 2 2/3 - 82, 77, 71, 55 (just Lowell)
Yorvin Pantoja (4th season) : 4 2/3, 4, 4, 4 (relief) - 80, 68, 76, 57

For perspective, here is 2013 starters for Lowell (pitch counts unavailable)

Ty Buttrey (2nd season): 3 1/3, 6, 5, 5, 5, 4, 4, 5, 4, 5, 5, 4 2/3, 5
Jamie Callahan (2nd season): 5, 2, 4 2/3, 5, 5, 6, 6, 4 2/3, 2 2/3 (relief), 5, 5, 5, 3 2/3
Corey Littrell (1st season - Louisville): 2, 2, 2, 1 2/3, 2 2/3, 3, 2 1/3, 1, 3, 3 (relief), 3, 4, 4 1/3 (relief)
Mario Alcantara (4th season): 5, 5, 4, 4, 5, 3 2/3, 5, 2 2/3, 3 2/3, 5 (relief), 5 1/3 (relief), 3 2/3 (relief), 4 (relief), 2 1/3 (relief)
Teddy Stankiewicz (1st season - JUCO): 1, 2, 2, 2, 2, 1 2/3, 3, 3, 3
Daniel McGrath (1st season - INTL FA): 5, 5, 5, 5, 6, 3 2/3, 2 1/3 (relief), 5, 4, 5, 6, 1 1/3 (first four GCL)

Now, this is but a look at two different years... a different year may yield different results. There is certainly an argument that they are treating Brian Brown differently than they have with other college draftees (Corey Littrell would be the comparison here). But those with more years in the system have been given longer leashes and Dan McGrath was (relatively speaking) worked hard in his first pro season. It would be a much better comparison, of course, if we had pitch counts like we mostly do now.
