Astros are clearly the best team in the AL
We've been talking about this rough stretch telling us something about the Sox. What I've learned is that the Sox are probably better than the Yankees, at least in the funk the Yankees are in at present, but not really close to as good as the Astros. I'd expect Houston to win 8 of 10 against Boston.

My impressionistic take on the AL power rankings would be something like:

Houston
Tampa Bay
Chicago

Boston
Oakland
Toronto

New York
Cleveland

Seattle
Anaheim
Kansas City
Minnesota
Baltimore
Texas
Detroit

Somedays, the Red Sox put the fun in fundamentals, other days ...

can’t wait for Eovaldi to give up a couple more doubles next inning before he’s yanked.

They are literally better at every position than the Sox with the possible exception of left field and closer.
I'll take Bogaerts over Correa by a hair and probably Devers over Bregman and maybe even Vazquez over Maldonado, but I take your point.

Also, we've heard rumors of a weak Houston bullpen. Maybe we can see that tonight.

The Astros have really embraced the villain role. Manfred takes their draft picks away and they just back up the Brink’s truck for a Cuban stud.

DOB saying the Red Sox “really haven’t needed” a reliable leadoff batter.

matter of perspective, I suppose!!

We never really get to see the bullpen in a stress situation. Devers and Xander. Yup, probably a hair better offensively. Not sure about Correa defensively.

The Sox needed Eovaldi to be good and it looks like they will be lucky for him to make it through 5.
if Eovaldi comes back out to pitch the top of the 5th I will literally set myself on fire in the middle of Davis Square.
