I thought the Isles dominated most of the third TBH... there were a number of times, especially after Carlo left, that the B's simply couldn't get it out of the zone.
B’s dominated the first half until after the PP. Post goal it was all Isles.

The Island
That feels like a series-changing low-percentage goal in OT. Thanks. (Did the Isles goalie misplay that at all?)

But Bruins' D depth (or lack of) is scary.
Kelly Hrudey pointed out that Varlamov’s right pad got in front of the near post, which is a goalie no-no. It allowed him to overpursue Marchand and open up the far side juuuuuuuuuust that little bit.

Goalie played the percentage. Get beat there? Tip your cap and move along. Was there anyone coming weak side ? It may have been a factor. If no one is weak side he could have squared up more maybe
No. Bergeron was floating towards the middle and there were three Isles in the area.

Marchand went up top to pot that. I've been saying that all game, go up high on this guy, his first move is to flop down on every shot.

MARCHAND!
Exactly; this fucking guy hugs the ice with those two mattresses he wears for pads...........go high on him.

It is super weird. The Bruins are an extremely talented team with multiple future Hall of Famers on the roster that plays some beautiful hockey, but they still act like Terry O’Reilly is still lacing them up and pissing in everyone’s pre-game coffee.

Cassidy talked to Carlo, Carlo said he was feeling "pretty good." Doesn't want to rule him out until they see him in the morning

I find it hard to believe. but ...

The goalie probably pushed to the post a little too soon, but that was a ridiculous shot by Marshy.

Would be amazing if he is not concussed but certainly not impossible. The body freaks the fuck out when it takes a bad hit and it can definitely send you to another planet for a bit.

Varlamov was good but it also felt like it was close to being average or bad, if that makes sense. Post over his left shoulder on a long range shot, Hall whiffing, lots of rebounds that didn’t quite find sticks. Certainly doesn’t feel like this is a Holtby-type situation.

Edit: Incredible stuff re: 2nd line. I don’t know how but the 3rd line just needs to give them anything. So many offensive zone draws with nothing to show for it but a bunch of icings and chances the other way.

For the game overall, it was 2.07 to 2.06 expected goals 5v5. Even with the goal allowed Rask was outperforming the numbers.

In the simulacrum
I'm actually sort of optimistic about Carlo. Watching it a few times, it looks like the worst of the impact is more in his chest -- I'd not be surprised if he got the wind complete knocked out of him and he might have some pretty banged up ribs. Maybe I'm wrong, but until I see a different report, it seems at least possible that he'll be OK.

I watched the entire game with the sound off and I have to say that I liked it. Don't hear play-by-play when you're at the game, so who says you need it at home?

I like hearing the ups and downs of the crowd. I’m ambivalent about announcers and don’t assume they hate the Bruins but they’re more background noise if anything.

I started doing that a few months ago. It’s a game changer.
It really is. Very zen-like. I don't know what the announcers could have told me that I didn't see with my own eyes (or figure out on my own after a few seconds) -- never had to turn the sound on.

Pierre certainly does. His description of both Marchand and pasta’s penalties bore no resemblance to what they actually were on replay.

he described as if they were horrendous affronts to the game. The pasta description was particularly egregious tohow little it reflected what happened.

Wasn't there a trick with SAP where you would just get crowd noise? (Presumably because there isn't an alternate language commentary for most hockey games.) I haven't investigated it myself.

We stole the game Varlamov was stealing.

I know I harp on it, but shot share and shooting percentages are a real thing. Goalie isn’t going to save them all, you never know which one will be the one that goes in. Just have to have more cracks at it than the other team.

The Pasta one he pointed out that Pasta slashed him. He was excited because there was a lot of action going on in front of him. A second after mentioning it, Pasta was called for a penalty. I don’t have precise memory but his reaction to the replay didn’t seem over the top. He did his job superbly IMO. I don’t see any legitimate rationale as to why Pierre, after being a professional broadcaster for however many years, would actively dislike the Bruins.

And yes it was a weird reaction to the Carlo hit but I don’t buy it was because they hate the Bruins. That’s more shoddy announcing.

Tuuka was ridiculous in that game.

Marchand with the fucking SNIPE.

I’m very happy that they won that game. I would have been very unhappy had they not won that game.

All is well now. We’re on to game 4. . . . . . .

I've always thought that Pierre has been generally complimentary of the Bruins. I never really see the hate

I've been really pissed about Game 2 since it ended, but now I'm only moderately pissed. I think that game will always bug me even if the Bs win the series.
