When was the last major name change in any pro sports franchise? Before DC and Cleveland, I mean. Was it the Hurricanes/ Avalanche in the NHL? The Titans in the NFL? That being said, I can't remember it ever happening when a team didn't move.

But that involved the team moving, which makes it easier.

I think it’s actually the bobcats-hornets-pelicans. But because hornets had Charlotte history that one wasn’t even that hard.
