A+ lineup tonight? Please? Want to see what they can do when this Death Star is fully formed and operational.

After what was a very difficult week in scheduling, just have to hope the foot stays on the gas, Judge returns to form sooner than later, play your game. Stupid stat, but CC goes for win #251 in this one, which would tie him with Bob Gibson for 47th all-time.

This team has been so much fun to watch virtually the entire season, except for Cessa. May that continue tonight.

MLB Highest bWAR Changed Teams in Offseason (Position Players)

DJ LeMahieu NYY 3.0
Carlos Santana CLE 2.8
Robinson Chirinos HOU 2.7
James McCann CHW 2.7
Josh Donaldson ATL 2.4
Michael Brantley HOU 2.4

Machado is at 2.1 and the wildly overrated Bryce Harper is at 0.8.

Looking back over the winter posts, the DJ signing was treated as a good under the radar move because of his versatility and defense. Wingack had a decisive post in favor of DJ over any big money signings. There were some holdouts for Machado. Abbey posted a BP prediction of 4.2 WAR for DJ that he said was a very good indicator of offensive skills.

Yeah, that wasn’t directed at anyone here. That was more about NYYFans which had a meltdown the day he signed, and I imagine WFAN was the same.

Yeah, I was initially confused by the DJ signing just because NY had Gleyber and were expecting Didi back mid-season (and I was dubious about Gleyber at SS, which I was wrong about) and DJ had basically only ever played 2B in the majors.

But how anyone can not trust Cashman on (most) personnel decisions after the past three years is beyond me (his record is very flawed before that, but I choose to judge from the time the new plan was put in place, Aug 2016, and he is killing it so far). That whole NYYFans site should be nuked from orbit, so much dumbness in one place. NY could win 110 games and sweep three postseason series and they'd still be complaining about Chris Carter and Stephen Drew.

Judge and Encarnacion sit, pretty sure this is the first time NY has started their top defensive infield:

LeMahieu 1B
Voit DH
Hicks CF
Sanchez C
Stanton RF
Gregorius SS
Torres 2B
Urshela 3B
Gardner LF

I am going to take the data you posted here and bring it over there to poke at some bears.

I never go there but was curious how we received it here. Just a rationale discussion of the potential moves. So typical of what Yankee fans do here. Maybe because it’s a Red Sox board, we mind our manners?
I had no idea who DJ was. Surprised when I read he had won a batting title. But once he got into pinstripes, a big guy who makes contact, I was intrigued. This team is deep but DJ set the tone for everything with his bat and glove. And yes, Jon, Cashman is a genius.

I wanted him for a while, but then I switched to trading Andujar for Franmil Reyes and signing Moustakas. DJ wasn't a possibility that I heard from literally anyone, here or elsewhere, for the same reason I said above, that no one knew he could actually play 3B really well.

Yeah, the main thing I wanted was not to see Andujar there any more.

CC is tough to watch when he's not in control. I love the big fella but he's scary to rely on lately.

Sanchez is definitely a better catcher this year
He might not be, though, it's pretty unclear. He is probably a bit better at throwing (which he has always been really good at), he is a lot better at pitch blocking, but it has been counterbalanced by much worse pitch framing. I would say from observation that the other catcher 'outframes' him most games, one of the recent games (Saturday?) he cost his pitchers at least 4-5 strikes over the course of the game. Gamecalling I have no real way to judge, I don't think.

That throw was sick, though.

For my own sanity, I will take clean defense over a couple of pitches framed per game.

The main thing to me is Sanchez got into shape this year. He looks trimmer. Played through two injuries last year. This is the Sanchez the Yanks were hoping to get.

I saw a This Day in Yankee History thing today. In 1962, Yanks beat Tigers 9-7 in 17 innings. Yogi caught all 17. He was 37 at the time.
