In the movie, Let It Ride, lead character Trotter is having a great day at the track. Instead of taking his winnings and going home to the wife, Trotter keeps betting the races. This is where the Yankees are right now. They just want to keep riding their hot streak.

Brad Peacock vs. James Paxton tonight. Good pitching matchup. Let’s see how the Yankees’ big bats handle a tough right-hander. And what about the lefty, Paxton? Is he ready to dominate a good lineup laced with exceptional right-handed hitters?

Aaron Judge returns to the lineup tonight. Hammering Cameron Maybin will hit the bench. Aaron Hicks should return after a night off. Hicks was rested because he’s been hitting .118 the past two weeks. Which means he’s due to get hot.

It hasn't been an issue lately but Boone will have more pressure on him managing the bullpen now that they are down a reliever.

I hope we get to see the full A lineup tonight, no one sits.

My guess is bullpen decisions are mostly collaborative. Boone, Rothschild, Bard and Harkey get together before each game and devise a general plan for who’s available. During the game, Bard and Rothschild talk about who to get up first, and when. Boone listens in and makes final decisions but my sense is he listens to Larry and the stat guys upstairs.
My question is whether the “quant” staff can communicate with the bench once the game begins. Is that even legal? But how is that monitored? I have to check on television tonight to see if anyone is looking at a computer on the bench.
Bottom line, I think Boone hardly ever overrules Rothschild on bullpen decisions. But certainly the blame goes to him first. He’s in charge.

Also nice to see that the rain seems to have cleared out until Tuesday or so.

Not going to lie, this is slightly disappointing but wow, that top half. LeMahieu and Voit get a day off, Hicks has a slight throwing issue that he got a cortisone shot for yesterday but he says he'll be back tomorrow:

RF Judge
C Sánchez
SS Gregorius
DH Stanton
1B Encarnación
CF Gardner
2B Torres
3B Urshela
LF Maybin

I think we will get it on Sunday against Verlander if not tomorrow.

Judge must be the tallest leadoff hitter ever. That used to be a job for short people.

Costas and Kitty Kaat doing the game for MLBN with Rosenthal chipping in. The mute button may not be necessary tonight.

Maybe a deceptive camera angle, but it sure looked like Brantley could have caught DIdi's ball.

While Stanton bats, it's easy to forget that in an era of exit velocity, he hits the ball harder than anyone. He has played five games this year and has two of the three hardest hit balls all season by anyone.

Paxton looks like he's slowly getting back to himself, I saw at least one 98 in there.

Confusing sentence from Gameday:

"Yan Gomes flies out sharply to center fielder Ronald Acuna in foul territory."

Paxton gets through the top of the order after the leadoff double from the fast #9 hitter, pitching around Altuve with 2 outs and getting the tough Alvarez to ground out.

At 6’7”, Judge ties Detroit’s Steven Moya, 9/16/16 and Hondo, Frank Howard, 10/1/69, of those in the starting lineup.

Holy shit, Gary’s offensive resurgence is such an undersold story of this year’s team nationally, albeit less so here.

I knew that would intrigue you. Short list of taller position players than Judge and Hondo. I wonder who is the tallest position player ever?

This is a list of tallest position players. Couple pitchers tossed in there. Dick Hall and Randy Johnson at 2B and LF.

Ottavino doesn’t get the call on a 2-2 pitch but then throws one right down the middle and Straw looks at it.

Houston misses Springer and Correa a lot.

Peacock with 11 Ks thru 6. The only mistake he made was not a bad pitch. Sanchez just beat him.

2-1 after 6. Rare close game for NY.

Alvarez lines out to CF to end it.

Good bullpen effort so far. Creative use of Paxton, Ottavino and Kahnle to get 6 outs.

People seem to think that the move for Maybin will be back to 8 pitchers, but they need the 5th OF with all three starters still revving up, and they can't trust Frazier's D and don't need his hitting so IMO it will be Tauchman.
