We’ve all seen some great pennant races over the years, and 2019 could be another one. Yanks, Rays and Red Sox will be in each other’s hair all summer long. Boston is the defending world champions, doing a fair 1978 Yankees impersonation. The Yankees and Rays haven’t won anything yet. The two best teams so far have been the Twins and Astros.

Nothing is official but it looks like Ryne Stanek will open tonight for Tampa. Lefty Ryan Yarbrough will take over after Stanek is done throwing heat. J.A. Happ is the starter for NY. But the big news is the return of Giancarlo Stanton to the lineup. Put the big guy in LF and watch him lengthen the lineup.

Enjoy the game, enjoy the summer of baseball as it plays out.

Lot of rain around now and this afternoon, but maybe better by game time.

Or they might just slot Judge in 2nd, bench Maybin and move everyone else down a notch. I'm not sure the lineup will change much whether it is against lefties or righties, although Stanton will move up once he settles in and starts hitting.

Also Judge could be back sooner than next week, I think he just needs to play back to back games in the field and I'm sure they'd like him against HOU this weekend. He is in RF tonight in AAA, so theoretically he could play there tomorrow too, have Thursday off and be activated Friday (at the soonest).

Conor Foley reports that "Aaron Judge will play two days in the field, then DH for the RailRiders.", so I bet they are looking at bringing him back on Friday or maybe Saturday.

It poured all day. The city was a total mess to get around. It’s going to be soggy out there if they play.

Rays are scuffling lately or maybe coming back to earth a bit, depending on how you want to look at it.

d’Arnaud leading off and playing first while Meadows sits has me on a 1/10 level of optimism for this one and reflects how shitty things have been going lately. Getting rained out and rescheduled for after Glasnow returns would be the best outcome.

Mike Ford, Mike Tauchman and Kyle Higashioka all homered in the first inning in Scranton tonight, Judge walked in between the first two.

Yanks grab a 1-0 lead on SF by Sanchez. Stanton strands two with a towering pop foul behind the plate. Distance traveled, minus 15 feet.

Happ gets thru 5, just 2 runs allowed. Bullpen game in full flight as Ottavino is warming.

Yarbrough gets Didi to open fifth and now he is gone after 3 scoreless innings.

Stanton wasn't....first thought in my head was how bad a matchup Stanton was for the best slider in the league.

Hehe, after the AAA game:

"Aaron Judge: "I've been ready. It's just about getting the reps in and making sure this thing stays healthy and no issues. And there hasn't been any issues, so ready to go. But those guys are rolling up there, so I don't know if I can crack that lineup. We'll see. We'll see.""

Wow, what a skyscraper shot by Maybin, I thought that had no chance to leave the yard off the bat, as just one of those mega foul balls.

Last Yankee with a homer in four consecutive games? Voit, 9/27/18-3/28/19. Club record is Mattingly's 8, in 1987.

Mattingly, Junior Griffey and Dale Long share MLB record with 8. I am so old, I remember when Dale Long did it in like 1958.

Edit: 1956!

Haven't been impressed by Didi's D since coming back but two very sweet plays to get Britton through the 8th.

NY will be 10-3 against TB (6-2) and BOS (4-1) if they hold on here.
