Pretty neat to see Mookie say, after last night’s game, that the Yankees “play the game the right way.” Was he throwing shade at his own team?

Gio hits grounder to deep third. Devers makes the long throw. He looks better at third base this year. Which makes him a stud player.

I’m obviously wrong about the relief plan, maybe Ottavino isn’t available.

Ah, here’s Ottavino, so they will likely ask him for four outs.

JD really chasing low stuff lately. Not the same hitter since his back acted up a few weeks ago. Playing hurt? Seems to wear an anguished look on his face after most swings. He hit .256 in May.

Holder lives up to his name, nice inning.

I didn’t want to bring it up before, but I have maybe never seen a pitcher shit the bed like Holder in a game at Fenway last year, so it’s nice to see him with a strong inning against them.

He could still fall apart in Fenway, if Yanks ever get there.

Maybin came in for Clint on D, so he is on deck.

Mookie would have had his slow ass, heh.

Really would have liked some tack-on runs, but Walden and Workman have pitched well.

Your turn, Zakk.

Nice, but Chapman will get the top of the order, so let’s get him some more now that pitch framing magician Leon is out.

NY should now seriously consider using Tanaka as the first and hopefully only reliever behind CC tomorrow, Paxton would then be on six days rest for the next game on Tuesday and so would everyone after that.

Not sure you can disrupt Tanaka’s routine like that. But there is a lot of logic to what you propose.

Yeah, they would have had to think of it at least one day ago probably, but actually otherwise guys are all pitching on seven days rest next week which probably isn't ideal either. Just a thought, let's see if it is broached in the real world...

But honestly there are very few alternatives, they need to send Cortes Jr. down for CC so they lose a long guy too. Also they could wait a game to activate CC and just start Tanaka (normal rest).

lol, they are missing one player and that's why they lost ? As opposed to how many of our starting lineup on IL ??
This rationale is getting stale. The backups may be better than the missing pieces. Whereas Boston is just not operating on all cylinders.
We are going to see a lot of speculation about JDM’s health over the next few days.

Oh, I agree that a short CC outing could make three busy days in a row for the bullpen. These five-inning starts are going to tax the bullpen eventually, especially when the schedule begins to crush them. So far, they have played seven more home games than road games.

Collective NY bullpen line for these two games: 9.1 7 0 0 3 10, six guys tonight covering 5.1 innings.

No, it's not that, their options tomorrow, assuming CC activated for Cortes Jr., behind CC are:

Kahnle, Ottavino, Britton or Chapman for a third straight game which they don't like doing, but there is an offday Monday and they were well rested coming in. But still...

Green or Holder for the second straight day, again not ideal.

Cessa and Hale.
