I apologize in advance if this is the wrong spot for this, but have any of our young guys looked all that promising so far? I try to keep up with these threads and I havent noticed anybody off to any promising starts, but would 100% admit to not being all that locked in to their mL teams so far this season. Anybody have any prospect they are bullish on?

A couple for each team:

PawSox: There are no great hitting prospects thus far... but former MLB player Mike Olt has a fine .274/.451/.581 line. And Jordan Betts... who has never done much of anything in his previous four MiLB seasons has reached in 11 straight games at Pawtucket (after going 0-for-2 in his AAA debut) at a .293/.348/.537 clip. [As an aside... Rusney has the highest BA on the team... but is 5th in OBP and 5th in SLG which adds up to 6th in OPS at .749]

However... the pitching has some names. First among them is Jalen Beeks who has 46 Ks in 26 1/3 innings over 5 starts with a 1.71 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP. Kyle Martin (who was up in Boston last season) has also been doing well. The Marcus Walden surprise of the year may be Josh Smith who has a 0.59 ERA and a 0.78 WHIP over his first 15 1/3 innings.

Portland: Cole Sturgeon - .372/.444/.606 with 7 doubles, 5 HRs, and 5 SBs in 24 games. Like Jordan Betts, he has never approached these numbers in his previous 4 seasons... but he is only 2 HRs away from a new career high. And in your Hector Velazquez Mexican League prospect watch, Esteban Quiroz put up a .302/.413/.604 line in his first 15 games... but is currently on the DL.

As for pitching... I'm bullish on Mike Shawaryn (1.13 WHIP in 5 starts)

Salem: Probably the prospect center of the Red Sox universe right now. Roldani Baldwin has only played in 8 games thus far... but had two hits in 4 of them. Batting .313/.371/.594. May be the best positional prospect in the organization right now. Santiago Espinal may well be growing into himself as he already has 12 extra base hits this season (in 27 games) after 26 last year (123 games) and 2 in 2016 (26 games). Batting .288/.356/.500. Kyri Washington missed almost all of last season due to injury after putting up an .800 OPS as a 21/22 year old in Greenville in 2016. Batting .266/.376/.494 in 24 games this season... six more games than he has all of last season. Jerry Downs is another one who had didn't play as much last year due to injuries. Line of .311/.374/.427 thus far in 28 games. And... Bobby Dalbec is HIGHLY boom or bust with his .189/.333/.421 line... leading the team in doubles, HRs, walks, and Ks.

Pitching is all about the relief. Jordan Weems with a 0.68 ERA and a 0.83 WHIP with 17 Ks in 13 1/3 innings. Matt Gorst with a 1.26 ERA and a 0.84 WHIP with 20 Ks in 14 1/3 innings. Daniel Gonzalez has moved from starter to long reliever with impressive results, going 5-0 with a 2.42 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP. He leads the theam with 33 Ks while only walking 3 (in 26 innings). And... in a Dalbec way, Bryan Mata is fascinating. 1.42 ERA with a 1.47 WHIP with 18 BBs, 5 HBPs, 10 H, and 14 Ks.

Greenville: Victor Acosta - .351/.405/.571 with 10 extra base hits in 21 games. Keep an eye also on Lorenzo Cedrola (.863 OPS in 10 games) and Michael Osinski (.808 OPS in 17 games... but currently DLed).

Pitching: Kutter Crawford - 1.80 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, 40 Ks in 6 starts (translating to an 0-1 record). Denyi Reyes has an even lower WHIP (1.01) with 40 Ks in 7 appearances, but has been prone to the long ball (5) so his ERA is a mere 3.12. Enmanuel De Jesus has been nails in his first three appearances (2.08 ERA/0.77 WHIP).

It's hard to follow this year. We've been spoiled for so long.
