I should start a thread and maybe I will, but from my armchair perspective, what to do with Andujar is pretty obvious. I said in the offseason when SD was desperate for a 3B (they didn't get in the Machado bidding until very late) and were evidently very high on Andujar that NY should try to get Franmil Reyes and Manny Margot for him, Reyes is a DH ideally (as is Andujar, but SD valued him as a 3B still) and Margot looked like he might be out of SD's plans a bit. Then NY could have signed Moustakas relatively cheaply and had LeMahieu and Urshela behind him. Anyway, that is not happening now...
So Andujar is your DH for now, basically every day. Urshela is your 3B, LeMahieu and Wade backup possibilities, Andujar should not be a 3B option. Voit is the 1B, I doubt Andujar can be adequate there either but I would be OK with a few games to make sure if NY thinks he can. If you want to give someone the defensive day off, they get the day off not a "half-day off", to start the game anyway.
Andujar gets to show just how special or not his bat is as guys come back, because if Clint and Voit keep hitting and Urshela keeps fielding and Stanton and Hicks and Judge all come back, he could be sent to AAA if the team is healthy enough. It would be legit from a baseball perspective given his historic defensive ineptitude, but also NY didn't get the extra year of control on him at the start of 2018 because Drury went out and they had to call him up, so I bet a month in the minors would be enough there. That way he could play 3B every day and not hurt anyone except the AAA staff and maybe the occasional spectator on the 1B side.
Anyway, there is the state of the Andujar piece that the NY writers have yet to do. If any of you see this and riff off it, it would be cool to be cited.
The most surprising news of all of those updates was that Hicks might be back as soon as next weekend, as he's been getting a lot of ABs in extended spring training. Clint will be back tomorrow which we knew already, but Didi might start rehab games by May 20, which means return in early June, again ahead of schedule and very welcome.
First pitch around 4:18 is the latest, rain has stopped here outside of the city but there is more on the way.
Sanchez is doing a nice job behind the plate in shitty conditions today. That 3-2 pitch to get Kepler was a 97 MPH fastball that Kepler swung through viciously and that Sanchez had to catch on a short hop.
