1) Brian Cashman. We talk about Cashman quite a bit around here. He's pretty good at his job. The pieces the Yankees added this past off-season have mostly worked out so far. Corey Kluber, Jameson Taillon, Darren O'Day, and even Roughned Odor are all on the plus side of the ledger as value added to the team. I won't be surprised at all if Wandy Peralta and Robinson Chirinos make a positive impact too. Jay Bruce retired and I'm not expecting to see Derek Dietrich if Odor remains somewhat productive. Collectively, a good job adding relatively cheap depth. Thanks Brian.

2) I'm going to say more good things about DJ because relative to his standards, he's still scuffling a bit and I'm trying to speak some extra bases hits into existence. He's a professional hitter who hits to all fields and gets on base. I'm very thankful that he came back and will be with the Yankees for years to come. I hope his professionalism rubs off on some of the younger guys and that his impact grows beyond what he does at the plate and in the field.

3) Jonathan Loaisiga. The kid is electric and can be trusted with important innings. I kind of wanted to see him in the rotation some day, but now, barring injury, I suspect he will be a mainstay in the bullpen for a long time.

4) Chad Green. Solid. Dependable.

5) Garbage cans. The Astros will get no help from them. I hope to hear some quality heckling bleed into the broadcast.

The Astros lead the AL in run differential currently and that is even with playing some games very short-handed because of Covid stuff.

Tonight is Greinke vs. German, a repeat of game 1 of the 2019 ALCS would be welcome, with German in the Tanaka role. Gleyber and Stanton went deep off Greinke in that one:

Higgy gets another start, Odor back to 9th thankfully:

DJ LeMahieu 1B
Giancarlo Stanton DH
Aaron Judge RF
Gio Urshela 3B
Gleyber Torres SS
Clint Frazier LF
Aaron Hicks CF
Kyle Higashioka C
Rougned Odor 2B

Also interesting that Gardner sits as he is one of the few Yankees who has done OK against Greinke, but they really need to get Clint going ASAP.

Mike Tauchman happy to visit the first team who traded him (the Rockies), leading off for the Giants today with a double in the first. They batted around and he walked in his second AB, also in the 1st, scoring two runs in the inning like me when I used to play slow pitch softball as a young man (I was a speedy leadoff hitter/CF for the Time Magazine team, we won the Publisher's League one season). Anyway, 10-0 SF after a half inning.

Luke Voit doubles on the first pitch of the AAA season (he was going to rehab at AA but the Covid protocols are much trickier going from AA to MLB as opposed to AAA to MLB, so he will play for about a week in AAA before hopefully coming back).

German just put that on a tee. That’s embarrassing, hate the fact he still gets starts from a baseball perspective, forget how awful he’s been off the field.

His previous start was great.

One pitch in an otherwise sharp inning. German gives up homers. Solo homers don’t kill you.

Nice second inning by German, maybe he should throw 15 MPH slower and then the ump could see his pitches better. :)

Just feels like real baseball tonight with fans impacting the game and two good teams playing. Yanks have gone from suck to good in about a week.

German gives up homer to Brantley and near homer to Gurriel in fourth. Tie game.

Domingo gave up 30 homers in 2019 when he went 18-4 with a 4.09 ERA.

Greinke gets through 4, that might be it for him with DJ coming up again.

Hicks won't struggle like this forever. I think if he can stay healthy, which obviously has been a problem, that contract probably won't be hard to move.

Waiting for him to snap out of it is frustrating though. It seems like he is max swing all the time

I was going to post this even before that beautiful DP, but the infield defense has looked very good since Bruce was dumped.

Gleyber with a diving stab to start an acrobatic DP. He was shifted over to 10 feet right of second with Gio playing short.
