Good game. Couldn't have written up better. Clutch hitting, great pitching, other team looked lost.

Happ and Tanaka are essentially the same pitcher to me at this point. Are the one to two homeruns they give up every game going to be solo shots or 3-run blasts? Answer to that question will usually dictate whether they have a good start or not.

This team takes no prisoners. Rarely makes mistakes. Coldly efficient. LeMahieu exemplifies how they play the game. But he gets help, up and down the lineup.

Don't recall the playoff scenario ever feeling so set in a league by the end of May. Even the wild card seeds (Rays 1, Red Sox 2).

There's a long long long way to go still. OAK has a semi-big series against HOU this weekend, they just finished a ten game winning streak and should be getting a lot of pitching back in the next month or two.

i have a very good feeling about this team in 2019 and beyond in fact i think we might be the team of the 2020's and we have the deepest 40 man in baseball

ok, agreed. Certainly that the season is a marathon, and that the A's could challenge the Red Sox for WC, given the Red Sox luxury tax and farm system challenges. I still think the superior talent on the Red Sox will prove too much for the A's. Catching the Astros, that I can't see. Expecting a lot of phenomenal baseball come October. Astros/Twins/Yankees/Rays. Even the Rays winning the pennant would not shock me, given their pitching strength. Red Sox.... no team this millennium has won back to back world series, there are reasons for that, and that streak is not changing this year. What happened in the previous millennium I do not remember, nor do I care to be reminded. Dodgers are scary good.

it's hard to fully buy into the Twins, but the Indians look like their window has closed, even with some regression on the Twins it might still be a comfortable division in the end.

I'm hoping the Red Sox can start playing good for a long stretch and get into the WC1 spot at least. Looking at the WC race and all the teams around .500 right now, we are clearly the most talented of that group (Red Sox, Indians, A's, Rangers, White Sox, Angels) and that should win out into a spot. then who the hell knows in the playoffs.

We haven't really had any great historic rivalry coin flip era wild card games yet, have we? NY/BOS, LA/SF, CHC/STL, what's the closest we've gotten? Without looking it up, CHC/PIT is the closest I can think of.
