I continue to believe that this team can win one more game. Because the objective remains simple and unchanged. Win the next game.

Maine
How is that possible? They won 8 straight
There were two threads for each of the eight games starting with ALCS game 4. CE would start the initial thread. At some point during the game, the CE thread would be locked and replaced by the Yammer thread.

That’s my distinct recollection, anyway. Other old timers from 2004 can confirm or correct this.

Just win G7.

Don't worry about the narrative others have.

You got 1 task.

Play your best and win the fucking game.
Yup, it is kind of a dangerous position in that they must now really be feeling like this is destiny and Miami will roll over, etc.

A strong first quarter to break their spirit is critical.

Jz -I've posted the same initial game thread post except for the G# for the past 3 games. Im not usually superstitious but you don't fuck with MOJO when it's working and it makes sense.

I have no doubt that our team will play Celtic basketball. I expect both Jays to be at the top of their game. Miami is a gritty team that has the ability to get scorching hot from three, and have a player who can explode for 50 points. As long as Boston stays together, plays defense, and move themselves and the ball on offense, this team is going to the Finals. I see Boston up by 6-8 points on halftime, running out in the third, and winning by 12-16 points

Smart and Brown are 6-1 in Game 7s. Tatum is 5-1.

Jimmy Butler is 1-2. Bam is 0-1.

The outcome that would most surprise me is Miami putting up a ton of points. They've been stuck around 100 the last 3 games, and our defensive energy should be (ahem, better be) off the charts playing at home in a G7. You never know with this Heat group, but on paper at least, guys like Caleb Martin and Duncan Robinson don't fit the profile of players I'm worried about taking over in a road G7. So: I don't see it, unless Butler goes for 50+ or something.

In that case, the game hinges on us being merely half-competent offensively. If you gave me our series averages for this game— 47% FG, 32% 3PT, 12 TO — I'd be feeling pretty ok. Get the 3PT% closer to our season average of 37% and I expect it to be comfortable.

Strong defense, low turnovers, adequate three point shooting. That's the alchemy for a win.

The Celtics have been living on the edge and taking us along for a harrowing ride. They are an improbable 5-0 in this playoff run in games where they faced elimination. There is unfinished business to be done. Tonight the Big Chill continues and the they make it 6-0. Sad frowns all around for Riley and his band of grifting con men.

Gonna putter around the house until it's time to head south. For the entirety of my 45 years, I've prioritized not leaving /entering Maine with holiday traffic. Not sure how it will be at 6 pm tonight.

I tend to be a bit, uh, vocal in the Garden, but I already have a brutal sore throat (not covid). Gonna have to Kevin McHale this one and fight through the injury.

Assigning Brothers is so messed up. This game is going to have no flow and have way too many fouls. The Celtics will need to keep their composure because Miami will have a parade to the line

Buckle up.

Game seven.

At this point it’s simple: win today.

As for history? Tom Verducci said of the 2004 Red Sox “Their place in the sporting pantheon is fixed; the St. Jude of sports, patron saint of lost athletic causes, their spirit will be summoned at the bleakest of moments.” We have summoned their spirits and Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, and company have been inspired by them. In Game 7 in 2004 the Red Sox found a way to get 27 outs from an exhausted pitching staff, multiple homers from a slumping hitter, and yet another clutch hit from Big Papi and won running away.

Tonight, it is the Celtics turn. We must win every loose ball; hit the threes when open; make the extra pass; drive to the rim relentlessly; and defend like we are capable of. If we do all that, we will also make history.

Not today, Miami.

I predict something similar to last game - "let them play" early and then the calls tighten up as the game goes along. Cs need to break the Heat early with a hail of threes in the first. If they put up a 40 point 1Q or something, Heat might just decide it's not their year after all.

There were dueling game threads, desperate times. I believe one was titled something like 'Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?'

I'm a lot less nervous about this one than I was about Game 7 that year. Let's hope for a similar result!
