Just woke, still in a blind shaking rage.

-Thousands of people in Miami, probably

Havent watched a single minute live due to severe anxiety issues, just check the scores on my phone when I think the game is over. Then come here to read the comments.

Monday night, I will NOT be watching the game live......
As I get older I’ve found myself doing this more often. Or watching with sound off, etc. The Bruins series was a huge “why do I do this to myself?” moment.

With this team and its expectations I won’t be chilled until they win or the team rebuilt.

I still can’t believe those two shots from Duncan Robinson didn’t go in
Heart had dropped to the center of the Earth. So happy they weren’t buried by that cartoon doofus.

I’m trying to think of another time where I went from raging anger to delirious joy in a split-second like that? Sports related, of course.

] Derrick White game winner to force game 7 vs. the Miami Heat! With replays and different broadcasts reactions - TNT (English), TNT (Spanish), Movistar (Spanish) and SPOTV (Korean)
Very similar to the reaction in our house. We were focused on the rushed 3 and almost didn’t see the follow. Then we didn’t believe it counted until the replay showing the shot-clock light.

That was right up there with the Butler pick in terms of going from “I can’t believe we blew this” despair to stunned celebration within the span of a couple seconds.

You're a coach and you don't know that a shooting foul being 2 or 3 is an auto review every time? Joe's challenge had literally 0 downside at that point.
I'm totally fine with the challenge, but there was a realized downside. They lost a timeout and thus has one instead of two at the end of the game. Two would have given the inbounder the opportunity to call a timeout after either seeing the defense or if they didn't like any of the open looks.

Butler is the only comp I can think of right now
Thing is, I wasn’t mad at the Pats before the Butler pick. I was exasperated that an opponent made another miracle catch, but that wasn’t the Pats fault. I was angry at the Cs for pissing away yet another late game lead. And then, redemption.

Still happy.

That happened right?

Pardon the ramble but in one of my pre-game 6 posts I said the Celts needed to bring

Defense, Desire, Daring, Danger and Desperation

I had a theme going on everything hangs on D.

And it does.

Celts D wins them championships

But I Deleted the Desperation.

I didn't want to appear less than confidant.

I wanted the Celts to play positive.

But DAMN

They were SMART enough to bring the Desperation when needed.

Maybe it showed up in the last 0.5 seconds but DEREK's DEPLOYMENT of DETERMINED DESPERATION was DELIGHTFUL.

DOUBLE DAMN

STILL HAPPY

I am choosing to believe that in the last timeout, Mazzulla did a little coaching and told The team to get the shot off quick and crash the fucking boards.

Also noteworthy looking at the replay how none of the Heat, save Bam, gave a second’s thought to boxing out.

I want to know. Was this is what it was like when Bird and Hondo stole the fucking balls? I know this is like the total opposite of what the play was but you know the MOTHERFUCKIN' elation?
Both of those steals were at home, there was no wait or review, so it was more immediate. But both were similar circumstances, you thought the celts were done and they come up with a flash-bang miracle individual play to win.

Wasn't able to join the thread last night. Wanted to go back and see who got first reaction to the put back. Can't decide if it was Jobu or Devizier here.
My “what” was definitely a reaction to the tip in. But it should have been a WHAT?!?!?

The cradle of the game.
Watching live, I thought the shot was late as all I saw was the red backboard light being on. But then in a split second thought, with all the replay camera angles, no way a player would try to advocate for a good basket if it didn't happen. Shooter is always the first to know.

I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT HAPPENED ARE YOU SHITTING UP MY ASS
I am still cackling at this. Thank you!

Did anyone catch Spoelstra's post-game interview? He sounded devastated. "If only it bounced another way." We should have won type stuff. He is one of the best of all-time, but that did not give me confidence if I am a Heat fan.

Celts had the lead in the Havlicek game but the sense of foreboding with the prospect of Wilt getting the ball in the low post
was thick. And I recall some break in the action as there was some confusion on the court as to what happened. I remember thinking and pacing in my parents basement, "WTF is a (guidewire) guywire? And to this kid at the time, the Celts losing a series was about inconceivable.

Havlicek stole the ball was more like Malcolm's pick, HUGE defensive plays that preserved leads and led to wins.

Derek's season saving O board put back was sort of unique in my recall of Celts play off history.

Rewatching in the (more sober) light of day. This team is quite the rollercoaster ride. I have as usual watched all year and the ups and downs have been almost too much. I try to check in and occasionally post here because it’s the smartest group of fans anywhere. I posted after game 2 and said I was tired. Tired of the blown games. Tired of the sloppy play. Guess what? I am wide fucking awake now. Going to be a long wait until Monday. I love this team and all their flaws. It’s all part of the journey.

I hate f'ing bail out calls. Leaving aside Butler's double dribble, he jumps into Al, and Al blocks the shot first with his elbow. Considering the earlier foul on Al when Butler drove and Al backed off, I would be so pissed off at the refs. I guess the lesson is leave Butler alone at the end of games and just let him make/miss uncontested shots.

Yep. And note that we were talking about Bird+ Henderson's steals, not Havlicek's.

I think someone upthread noted that Tatum was there for the tip-in on the right side of the rim, clear in the replays .

It’s the only reason they were in the game.. for all the hand wringing about the Celts offense.. most of Miami’s offense was Butler getting foul calls..at least three of which he jumped into the defender to create any of the contact .. if there was any.

Some Ben Dreith level bullshit as far as I’m concerned. That foul call was a total bailout for an offensive player who was completely smothered.

Can someone explain the 3.0 seconds thing? If they reset it at the 3.0 mark (which they did), that point came when Al bumped Butler while (1) Butler was still dribbling, and (2) his foot was on the line. So it would have been Butler at the line for two shots, down two points, with 3.0 seconds left.

But if they called it at the point where Butler went up for the shot, it should have been reset to 2.8 seconds, with Butler getting those three free throws, and those lost 0.2 seconds would have made the difference between White getting the tip-in off or not.

So either of those things should have happened. What should NOT have happened was what DID happen: Butler getting three free throws with the clock reset to 3.0 seconds.

Did we get an adequate explanation for this?

Vincent with his hands in the air doing not much except celebrating Smart’s miss while White is right in front of him going to the rim for the tip-in is eerily similar to Rodman and Salley (I think Salley) running down the court celebrating the Pistons defensive stop while Isaiah Thomas is left on an island trying to find someone to whom he can inbound the ball (he eventually found Bird).
So is mentioning Thomas Hill!....if there's anything Rick Pitino has said time and again after it happened....big mistake not putting someone on the inbound passer, even though this one was from the frontcourt, not the end line. Strus didn't fuck up, Spoelstra did. Could have been a pass back to White for a jumper as well given where Strus was located.

So many emotions this morning.

The Celts choked on offense down the stretch yet again. Horford choked on that horrendous-the-only-thing-you-can’t-do foul. And Mazzulla choked on that out-of-bounds non-play call that somehow ended up yet again with Smart taking a game-winning shot (kill me).

And they won.

It feels like this team is going to make its own destination.

Bird’s steal and assist against Detroit.

But it’s still magnificent.
I still think it's Bird's because we didn't have possession and had to not only steal posession and score...BUT, we did not win that series. If Celtics go on and win 5 more games, this gets a lot closer.

Looks like Tatum gets White in the nuts just after the shot. Kind of like Hightower grabbing Butler in the Butler play. A split second earlier and that could have been trouble.
