I am sitting here in the McCoy press box, eating free food and preparing to blog this game for SOSH. I am your worst nightmare. Yankee fan, old school sports writer, writing what I see.

Henry Owens finishing his warm ups.

I like the 20-second pitch clock in CF. Owens allows one ground ball single to Flores, gets Refsnyder on a soft 5-3 grounder and then retires Kyle Roller on a deep fly to JBJ in center.

Owens has 30 walks in 43 innings this season. He hit 92 on the gun several times in the first inning.

Back to Owens. Opponents hitting .179 against him so far. 1.32 WHIP. He is worth waiting on.

Craig pops out. Penny for his thoughts. He already has 44 ABs in the minors. Slugging .419 with a .396 OBP.

Austin Romine singles leading off the second.

When Owens misses, it's by a lot. High and away twice now to Tyler Austin. Not to be technical but he's a tall guy with slight mechanical issues. Flying open. Walks Austin on four pitches.

Owens walks two guys in second. With two outs, Mason Williams singles to right. One run scores. Bryce Brentz guns down Austin from medium right to end the inning.

Refsnyder just ranged to the left of second base for a grounder deflected by the pitcher. Fielded ball on the run, threw a strike across his body for the out on catcher Humberto Quintero. Long perfect thru three.

Scranton pitcher Jaron Long is the son of Mets' hitting coach Kevin Long. Apparently the old man couldn't teach his own son how to hit.

Terry, how is Refsnyder's D?  Range, arm, etc?  Just curious.
He is a good athlete so his range must be pretty good. That was a slow-hit ball. Getting there wasn't the problem. Throwing accurately was impressive because his errors tend be throwing errors. He has maybe 150 games at second after playing RF in college. I saw him one game last year and thought he could make the switch. The scouts like him, too. He doesn't seem to be a home run guy. More of a doubles hitter when he's driving the ball.

Grounds out, 6-3. Nick Noonan has some range. Good field, no hit. .540 OPS in 129 ABs. Guys like him are a dime a dozen in the minors. Deven Marrero a bit higher on the food chain with a .675 OPS and 3 Hrs in 137 ABs. He can pick it at short.

Kind of a typical night for Owens. Thru 4.2 innings, 1 run, 4 hits, 4 walks. Lefties were hitting .308 against him coming in. Mason Williams just hit a deep drive to the wall in CF but JBJ ran it down like he was taking a stroll in the park. Owens tops out at 92. Can drop in breaking balls in the low 70s. Interesting combo. Reminds me of Bill Lee.

Here is Refsnyder with two outs. Nope, Humberto throws out a runner trying to steal third base for the third out. Yankees must teach making outs at third in the minors because they have perfected it in the big leagues this year.

Travis Shaw beats out a bunt for first PawSox hit with one out in fifth. Long's throw pulled Roller off first. It would have been Gang-bang but scorer Bruce Guindon ruled a hit right away because he doesn't need replays. That is how good Bruce is. Now Cecchni walks with two outs. Remember when he was the next Wade Boggs? Hitting about .190 now.

Owens with a clean sixth. This is time well spent in Pawtucket. You can't rush lefty pitchers.

If Boston needed a starter, Eddie Rodriguez is the man. Just 7 walks in 48 innings along with 44 Ks.

Craig just hit into DP on slow grounder to third. Close to five seconds down the line.

Celestino defying the 20-second clock, which shuts off when it gets under 10 seconds. You would think it would be like the shot clock in hoops. Nope. My first time seeing this. It's just experimental.

Scranton now leads 2-0 as Noonan hit a SF in the 7th.

Scranton 3b Cole Figeuroa and his .582 OPS better not look in his rear view mirror. 2013 No. 1 draft pick Eric Jagielo on a tear at Trenton, hitting .300 with 9 homers so far, three in the last week. Power hitters are rare and get promoted faster than slap hitters. Especially when they are No. 1 picks.

Also, Aaron Judge in a slump at Trenton. Hitting .158 over last 10 with 15 Ks in 38 trips. Pitchers must have found something to get him out with. Judge has to adjust.

Long leaves after 7.2 shutout innings. Lefty Tyler Webb in for JBJ. Two outs. This won't take long.

Allen Craig stands in. Hitting .326 in his new life.
Was hitting .326 but only has four XB hits, all of which are doubles.

Perhaps more importantly, he is at .967 OPS (.385 / .429 / .538) against lefties and only .749 (.300 / .382 / .367) against righties.

So, how does he really look?

Slow and disinterested from up here in the box. Toughest thing in pro sports is a former star on the way back down the mountain. Mentally screwed.

Jose Ramirez in to close this game out. Scribes praying for quick conclusion. Last thing they want is a tie game. I could give a shit. I am retired and have no deadline on anything.

He was on strike one fast ball, fouling it straight back. Ahead of an 81 curveball for strike two, fouling it straight down at his aching feet. Then he is late on 96, fouling it to the right side. On 0-2, he takes an 85 curve and singles between third and short, bringing up the dreaded tying run in Bryce Brentz.

Brentz takes strike three curveball that looked outside from up here. Umpires ready to go eat on Federal Hill.

Travis Shaw flies out to left to end it. Time of game : 2:39. No offense makes for fast games. Where have all the hitters gone?
