Today’s edition of MLB vs Little League features the best chance for a Yankees loss with Bundy on the mound. Something popped out to me when looking at the game preview, which is that Baltimore’s record is almost the inverse of our record. We head to KC tomorrow and unfortunately has to use a couple of our bullets last night so there’s a good chance that we don’t see Chap or Ottavino tonight.

Let’s go for the sweep!

Today’s IL highlight is none other than...Jordan Montgomery! We snuck a peek at his talent in 2017 and I’d venture to guess that the average Yankees fan has no idea who he is. The rest of us also have no idea who he is. Is he the solid 3 that he advertised in 2017 or something else? Will he enter the rotation immediately when he’s back? Is he good enough to edge out a CC or Loaisiga? Will he be the middle man? I don’t know where he fits but I’m excited to find out.

I wonder if NY thought that BAL might throw at those two today.

This is the last time these teams play each other until August, need to get one more W in the books and get out of town.

Tanaka working himself into a jam. bases loaded no out. Let's see if he can wiggle out of it.

Tanaka works out of it only allowing 1 run. Could have been much worse. Gleyber would have turned that DP.

Hicks loafs after line drive that went over his head to the wall. Misjudged it, came in a step, then trotted after the ball. Smith Jr. legged out a triple. Didn’t matter. Tanaka fanned the next hitter to end the third. Still 1-0.

Yanks may be sleepwalking today, plus Bundy is sharp.

Two thoughts:
Not sure if I ever trusted a new Yankee as quickly as I did LeMahieu.
Every time Gio makes a play at third base, I say a prayer for Andujar.

Clint Frazier vs the rest of baseball: .233 BA, 3 HR
Yea, but it's really hard to not judge these things over the long season because the injuries throw things off. It's also why run differential is totally useless for the first couple months because 3 or 4 offensive outbursts completely skew it.

Gleyber also hasn't done much against non-Oriole opponents.

So impressed with Thairo, 2018 was basically a totally lost year for him after being shot in the offseason, and he has barely played in AAA, but he looks like he belongs every time Boone gives him a chance.

One of the first things Boone asked Thairo to do was lay down a sac bunt, which he did. Then a couple games in left field. Back to the infield, where he plays three positions.
Signed in 2012 at age 16, brought along slowly by the player development folks, Thairo is an example of the Yanks’ commitment to international players.

Luke goes deep. 5-1.

Yes, he really does. And that makes me think of how many young players on the Yankees that applies to. Seems like a lot of them come across as mature/professional/composed.

Of course team success makes everything look better, but I wonder if some combination of coaching, managing and organizational support is making a difference. Certainly some luck too.

Regardless of the reasons, these kids sure make the team more fun to cheer for.

Gleyber pinch-hits and walks with two outs, now Gary is pinch-hitting. He hit the game-winning HR against Givens Monday night.

DJ walks on 4 pitches, bases loaded for Hicks and Givens up to 25 pitches.

Having back trouble and seeing Hicks have to flail to get out of the way of the pitches...man, those are great opportunities to re-tweak an injury.

Nowhere close, NY goes back ahead 6-5. Who is closing, Britton maybe?

More runs would be very welcome here, give the closer some cushion.

And of course Gleyber scores the winning run in his only AB, to push Gary Thorne further over the edge.

Stuck at work and blacked out of MLB.tv, so I've been Gamedaying today. I had a bad feeling from the In play, run(s) that Nunez had homered. Nice rally with two out no one on to get out of there in nine with a win.

By the way, as the 8th/9th progressed, the sky outside my window has gone from sunny to almost totally dark. DC vs Baltimore, but still - glad they got this finished.

NY temporarily caught up to their 2018 record at 32-17. The 2018 team peaked at 50-22 which will be tough to match, but they closed just 50-40 from there.

There's some stuff in Inside the Empire about how they now work with young players on language and life skills and not just baseball. Seems like it's having an effect.
