I think they should try a different type of coach from outside the organization.. I know it's four coaches in four years, but three of them have basically been from the same tree. Let's try someone with maybe different ideas.. but who that is.. I have not idea.
Nick Nurse, Monty Williams and Mike Budenholzer are all available. The top available job is in Milwaukee probably. But the Cs should be the second best team with an opening (if Brad does the right thing)...

Definitely not the same tree BTW, Stevens isn't really from a tree, but Udoka was a Popovich/Brett Brown guy, Mazulla... I guess he's from Stevens' tree?
of course Mazzulla is from the Stevens tree. What other tree would he be from?

Bob Huggins? I mean, come on now. For better or for worse, Mazzulla is clearly the Stevens ttee

yeah that was my point, he basically has 3 years of coaching experience, 2 under Stevens, 1 under Udoka, he's wildly under-experienced for his HC job

I don't question his work ethic, I question what he chooses to focus on. Pool workouts look cool but where are the dribbling drills?
Yes, my point was that the cake is likely baked with Jaylen and now he is getting stupid rich money and he’s also got at least hint of Kyrie in him. He’s the guy I move, for the right deal.

Ainge would be cutthroat enough to ditch this zero

No faith Brad is
I'm more curious is Brad is willing to trade one of his guys. This does not feel like a group that just needs a new coach and a few tweaks, it feels like a group that needs a shakeup and a move of one of the 3 core guys.

If that’s going to happen, it’s going to be Marcus Smart, not Jaylen. And I’m not convinced that should happen.

It’s 50/50. Personally, i try a new coach first. It’s much easier and obvious

I'm honestly getting Harden vibes. Like he care a lot about being a basketball player, but not always playing basketball.

Exactly. Plus you'll get much more for him than for Smart.

So you want a hardass for a coach, but in this league- it’s also gotta be a guy your top players want to play for, right? So that’s a pretty fine needle to thread.

he’s well known for being a manical worker. It’s shitty to question anyones work ethic on this team, especially the Jays
He’s definitely greatly expanded his skill set since coming into the league. If he’s going to improve he needs to work on reading the floor better. Feel like both he and Brogdon get tunnel vision when attacking the rim and miss chances to move the ball to a wide open shooter.

Look at how well Butler involves his teammates and makes his role players better. Jokic does the same thing in Denver.

He’s an incredibly difficult dude to figure out. Some games, he’s a man possessed. Other games, he reminds me of my 8 year-old trying to focus when the tv is on.

His ball handling is a joke and his defense is heading into liability land. I’m just not convinced he’s the Robin that Tatum’s Batman needs.

Wasted a pivotal year on a coach who watches 8 hours of The Town per week. Dude isn't even burning the candle at one end let alone two.
To move away from the weird Jaylen slander thah is incoming, this was always the issue. Windows are precious and committing on year to a weird dude who wasn’t even on the first row is a problem. Giving him a completely bare bone staff is a major fucking problem.

In hindsight, it’s obvious that this team wasn’t going to win it all with this staff. It’s not a veteran team in the first place, when the coach is a weird first timer, then that’s the death knell

I really think it's way more likely that he keeps his guys and hires a new coach, right move or not.

Once the decision was made to fire Ime, what really could Stevens do? Who else was he going to bring in to coach the team? Other than himself, I guess. It was too late to bring in an outsider.

I would keep Tatum and Brown.. this series notwithstanding. I wonder how bad Brown's hand is.. They need a Horford replacement and figure out if Robert Williams can be himself again going into the future.

I'm not ready to give up on their two best players. There's still a ton of talent there.

Heat have just been absolutely on fire in the playoffs.

Joe Mazzulla: “I just didn’t have them ready to play.” When asked again, he reiterated that, saying it’s his fault and that it’s on his team to keep this team together.
Yeah he’s done here.

Vogel. Thats the obvious one. Honestly the mistake was not hiring Vogel to be the main guy and Mazzulla his #2

When Brad left, it was reported that he had a rough time connecting with the players. The players insisted that they wanted someone to coach them harder. I would’ve hoped that after a finals run they wouldn’t need that as much.

Which is admirable in a way but also idiotic because the first 5-10 minutes was the only time they looked half decent because Jaylen was on a heater.

That said it’s a post game after an absolutely brutal loss. You can blow the team up or cover for the team and it’s not too surprising he’s doing the latter

I assume he will for sure, and maybe it works, this team has so much talent they may be able to win a title while still doing all the same stupid shit. They dicked around and got to within 2 games last year.

Once the decision was made to fire Ime, what really could Stevens do? Who else was he going to bring in to coach the team? Other than himself, I guess. It was too late to bring in an outsider.
The real key is that Ime didn't get fired, he got suspended. If he got outright fired I bet some key assistants elsewhere would have taken it, it's an NBA head coach job. (Brown, Vogel, etc.)

Totally agree. What worries me the most is that those 2-4 times a game he loses the dribble on a drive, he gives zero reaction, never tries to make up for his mistake, and slowly jogs back while the other team races up the floor
