I don’t think bringing back neither of Nate or Wacha was a bad idea- they both had serious red flags that suggested a big downward slide was likely. I don’t think the Kluber experiment was a good idea but I think they needed a vet to hold down a spot while the Houck/Whitlock/Crawford/Winchowski situations developed (and they needed more time to develop)
I think that the problem was the team didn't want to commit to multi year deals on these guys.

There really wasn't another guy out there who was going to sign a 1 year deal. I think it was as simple as that.

He also signed in February. So a lot of teams passed on him for various reasons

Whatever. Get out of the whale's vagina with a series win, I will take it. You guys who only watch the Sox are in for a treat with the Angels and Diamondbacks up next. Lots of really fun players.

Am I the only one who is curious about the use of 5 pitchers here. I mean Pivetta wasn't horrible out there and was on what would have been regular rest had he started the game, yet Cora pulls him after 2.1 innings and uses two more pitchers.

Cora in the post game answers questions about Kluber and his spot in the rotation. He says that Kluber will start on Sunday in Arizona. Asked if this means that the Sox are going with a 6 man rotation for the foreseeable future and Cora said "for the foreseeable week".

Better than fully committing to him, I guess.

Padres pitcher did a good job, why can’t the Red Sox get good pitchers like that?

Seriously though, has Kluber beenDFA’ed yet?
