And then Baltimore comes to New York. White Sox are no pushover but another series win would really set us up to continue this unbelievable stretch.

I maybe thought Boone was getting a little comfortable with his matchups and lineups but if there's ever a time to do that and be forgiven, it's when you're playing 750+ baseball. I'll digress, but I really hated losing yesterday and that it was another walkoff after the White Sox did it the other day.

Fri: Keuchel @ Cortes
Sat: Cueto @ Severino
Sun: Kopech @ Taillon

Walk off losses piss me off a lot too. Too many little things that could have gone right that didn't. But on the positive side, I'm thrilled that the Yankees are "in" the vast majority of the games they play. Even when they struggle on a given night with hitting or defense or whatever, they're usually still competitive late.

It may not last, but I haven't had this much frustration-free watching in a long time, and it isn't just the winning. I enjoy how they're winning and even losing.

On a different note, and probably a better discussion for another thread, I think the weaknesses that this team has have been coming into focus. Specifically catcher and LF/CF. Given that this team seems 'special', I can see it both ways: 1) don't make any changes because things are going well and maybe Higgy, Hicks and Gallo all turn things around, or 2) enter an early GFIN mode and make improvements now before being forced to later on in the season.

I'm almost never a GFIN guy. But I do think upgrading Higgy and one of the two between Gallo and Hicks could strengthen the team quite a bit, and I would rather consider it now when everything is going good than when and if Judge or Stanton miss some time. Move a little early rather than a little late.

I'm not sure there is a David Justice trade out there to be made, but I sure wouldn't mind seeing one. And I don't think it has to be a pure slugger. Even though he's off to a slow start too, I sure wouldn't mind seeing Bryan Reynolds in pinstripes. But it would cost.

Switching up catchers while the pitching has been going so well doesn’t seem wise.

I think even without crunching any numbers, a quick scan of the game logs of Trevino and Higashioka show that Trevino has been doing a much better job behind the plate. I'm not convinced that Higgy has been a value added to the pitching so far this season. He isn't terrible like Sanchez was though, sure.

I think your point carries weight @Wingack and there's probably not an incredibly clear upgrade unless we can swing a trade for Perez somehow but any of these guys go down for a month or two to the IL and we're in the same boat. I don't think you can rule out upgrading if we think we need the offense. Regardless, start with CF. That's the most obvious. Hicks is getting his chances and after 3+ years of not playing consistently, I'm guessing he's gonna take a much longer time to get in a groove. If he doesn't in a month, see ya.

Yeah, Hicks really looks cooked, both offensively and defensively. He is signed through 2025 and has about $35M left on his deal, you hate to eat that and have dead money on the roster for the next few years but there might not be a real choice, and it's only about $10M per year at least.

Ron Marinaccio is evidently back in the clubhouse, presumably Green is going on the IL.

Game is postponed, doubleheader on Sunday. That means NY will need a 6th starter again, could be Schmidt but he might not be stretched out enough.

Santander taketh away and Santander giveth, big hit from him and a game-winning two run HR in the 13th from old buddy Rougy Odor, BAL beats TB 8-6 in 13.

1 PM start today, Keuchel vs Nestor. It’s supposed to be very hot in NY this weekend, low nineties and humid for this one.

Obviously I feel very badly for both of them, but from a cold-hearted Yankee perspective, I don't think either is really a loss. Green is a FA at the end of the season and was one of the least reliable guys in the pen, Gil has a great FB but bad control and not very good secondary stuff, he was increasingly looking like a reliever long-term and NY has plenty of those.

Stephen Ridings is the guy I'm still excited for, he is supposedly getting closer to returning.

I hate that Higgy is catching today with a doubleheader tomorrow and a day off yesterday, it means he gets two games this series and Trevino should be starting more whenever possible.

42 pitches through 2 for Nestor on a hot day, today might be Clarke Schmidt day.

So what did Donaldson do? I guess I missed some stuff.
It started last week in Chicago, Anderson was on third and NY's catcher tried to pick him off, Donaldson completely blocked him off the base with a borderline cheap play, a football-type play. Anderson was pissed then and many words were exchanged. Then today, Donaldson was rounding second base as the third out was made, and he and Anderson had words again, and dugouts briefly emptied. Then when Donaldson came to the plate after that, Grandal seemed to really get in his face, yelling a lot, and then dugouts more seriously emptied, Anderson had to be held back by two guys in the dugout. That's where we stand, but I'm sure it's not over.

Holmes' sinker has to be one of the best pitches in baseball.

Great win. I kinda thought this one was going to keep going sideways. Damn glad to be wrong.

I would like to hear the context but I think we all knew Donaldson was a giant asshole before NY traded for him. no shock that he is still a giant ass.
Here is Tim Anderson postgame

Donaldson said he did, indeed, call Anderson “Jackie.” Said it used to be a joke between them.
If Anderson is insulted, it's clearly not an inside joke.

Well, Anderson came in (legitimately) pissed off about last week, so Donaldson probably shouldn’t even be trying to joke with him (if he actually was), but again, he is an ass.

Just got home and am catching up on this. I already didn't like Jodo, and now he's dropping racist bombs on the field.

I hope he gets a big suspension. Huge piece of shit thing to do.

Tomorrow, game 1 is on Amazon Prime starting at 3, game 2 is on ESPN around 7 unless the first one runs long. The matchups now seem to be:

Johnny Cueto (awesome in his one start so far, against KC) against Jamieson Taillon
Michael Kopech against Luis Severino

I don't think NY has announced who they are adding yet as the 27th man but I am begging them to make it Florial and give him at least one game in CF. He won another game in AAA today with an RBI single in the 9th, and his D is solid.

Florial did come up two weeks ago in this exact same situation, a 27th man for a Sunday home doubleheader after a rainout, and he has only gotten hotter since then, a .889 OPS in AAA for May. He is almost certainly better than Hicks right now (as are many of you reading this), at least give him one game in CF. K thx bye.

Chapman has allowed a run in five straight games, that is hard for a reliever to do.

Hicks is 3 for 24 with RISP for the season.
