Pawsox ride their Betts to victory, 7-6.

Boxscore

Josh Smith pitched four scoreless frames in a spot start, giving up two singles and a hit by pitch while whiffing one. Brandon Workman surrendered a hit by pitch, a single, and then, after inducing an out, a 3-run blast to Jermaine Curtis in the fifth... but was able to get five of the next six men he faced without incident – the sixth reaching on an error. Tyler Thornburg was not as sharp in his second rehab outing, allowing an unearned run on two walks while striking out one of the two men he put out in his 20 pitch outing. Thornburg was not helped by his defense, as short stop Chad De La Guerra had a potential double play ball tick off his glove for an error. Robby Scott picked up the final out in the seventh, but had issues in the eighth, getting only two outs. Scott surrendered two runs on three hits– including a Willians Astudillo long ball – and a hit by pitch while whiffing one. Kyle Martin ended the threat in the eighth and then pitched a 1-2-3 inning with a K in the ninth to end it.

Aneury Tavarez had a perfect day with two singles, a double, and a solo tater, driving in three and stealing a base. Jordan Betts blasted two singles and a three-run jack in his four jaunts. Ramon Flores flipped two singles and was hit by a pitch in four forays. Ivan De Jesus delivered two singles in five tries. Mike Ohlman obtained a single in four opportunities. Rusney Castillo contributed an eighth inning single in his five trips. Jeremy Barfield walked once in four appearances. Chad De La Guerra golfed a sacrifice fly amid three hitless at-bats. Jantzen Witte was unable to reach in four tries.
