You give that extra strike by dropping the third out, you can almost physically feel the momentum shift after that point.

Those dribblers down the line with bases juiced are always my favorite, can't quite explain why.

Huge inning. So I was out earlier and didn't realize Adams was up. Why not start him? Got lucky to score so many runs.

Brand Name, I think you might want to date Thairo Estrada. Is he your age?
Hehehe, a touch younger but that's never a bad thing, due personally back to the Bronx for another trip. I like what I see of him on-diamond though, kind of what was expected of Tyler Wade the past few seasons.

And yikes, for the sake of the game, I hope Diaz is okay, one of the better stories this year thus far, with Vogelbach, Caleb Smith, Mahle.

Thairo is the next Willie Randolph. Tyler Wade is a AAAA player.

TB with 142 combined pitches through 6.
301, albeit in 18, is the Tampa record, think that's safe. 233 for 9 IP isn't happening either, although 216 for 8 has an offchance.

Agree! If you told me to predict this a few years ago, I'd say to flip the names.

Good things happen when you don't bunt, DJ.

Not sure what NY's pitching moves are after this game, I guess Cortes Jr for Tarpley but Tarpley threw 42 pitches yesterday in AAA. Harvey went down on the 15th, so he can't come back yet so Chance may get to stay up for now.

Fewer old people die when their baseball team is winning 13-5 and heading back into first place.
FanGraphs just researched this and said Yankee fans live 12.7 years longer than Sox fans.

Wow. Yanks finally wore down Tampa’s pitchers. 13 runs, a lot of walks. There is no real history to how a pitching staff reacts to Tampa’s heavy emphasis on bullpen usage. Maybe last year is the only template. My only question about this team is what happens when the starters falter?

You need a lot of young AAA depth with options to pull it off successfully.

This year they’ve got DeLeon coming back from TJ around June/July, Honeywell (hopefully, his rehab has been slow) in August/September....and maybe they sign Keuchel??

Thanks, VORP. It is unprecedented to me what they are doing, and therefore hard to define. My respect goes to the position players who are impacting games. Lowe and Meadows, Diaz, et al. This team seems deeper. But it’s May and nothing is real yet.

Quite the three run rally to break this one open (before Thairo's bases loaded double):

infield single
walk
popped up bunt (1 out)
walk
walk (run scores)
ball gets by the catcher, Clint tagged out at home, other runners move up (2 outs)
intentional walk
walk (run scores)
infield single (run scores)

7 baserunners, ball didn't get out of the infield.

That inning was a gift, especially the call on Torres' grounder. But I've never seen so many pitches bounced up to the plate as I saw from Tampa Bay's relievers in these three games. They seemed to be more interested in inducing the Yankee hitters to swing at pitches in the dirt than they were in trying to get outs by throwing good pitches in the strike zone.

Am I the only one who finds it annoying when the catcher appeals to the first (or third) base umpire on virtually every pitch? Maybe MLB needs to reexamine the rule as to what is a swinging strike and what isn't.
