Opinions on Swayman/Vladar talent comaprisons? Any gut feelings on who is likely to be the real deal as an NHL quality goalie?

If one of them becomes a guy who can win you playoff series it’s Swayman. Right now Vladar is seen as a 30 start backup.

Edit: that’s been the consensus around the league from what I’ve read.

It's wait and see. No one really knows. Goaltenders are a strange breed and sometimes, like catchers, they are late-bloomers.

I've been really impressed in what I've seen from Vladar so far. He appears to be playing with some confidence and moving well. Being gigantic doesn't hurt either.

Didn't McAvoy take a big hit in last night's game? I recall being worried that he might have gotten dinged up.

Swayman has played nine games as a professional. With McAvoy and Carlo out this could be an unpleasant night. Swayman is going to need to be brilliant in his first NHL game. That’s a lot to ask, no matter good the kid has been.

right here
Not the ref that was 5 feet away staring right at the stick being grabbed and pulled into the body but the ref that was 80 feet away looking through bodies. Yay.

Thanks for the opinions about the goalies... tonight's action not included of course.

From the bit I've seen, I think some of these sequences verify just how much of an anchor that McAvoy has become - not that anyone here was saying differently.

Swayman gives up too much of the net when going post to post. Did it on the second goal and the missed one timer just now. He stays down and relies on his glove, which won’t work in the NHL. I defer to @TheRealness but that doesn’t seem to be a sustainable technique.

I noticed that on the second goal, and think he may have misread that pass and thought that guy was much tighter. He had plenty of time to get over and be more upright there, but it looked like he was trying to get the pad right to the post, like the guy was sitting back door.

That was a brutal defensive period. I hope Butch is breaking things in the locker room between periods.

It’s less than ideal to over commit, and you can already see the flyers targeting his glove. They’ve hit the post twice there so far. That’s something coaches can work with him on though.

I do like him. He takes good angles and seems more in control than Vladar.
