Senyshyn is somewhat of an enigma. He seems to have all the pieces, but his overall game is definitely not the sum of all the parts, yet. It seems like the organization is very high on his intangibles -- he was an alternate captain for one of the preseason games when everyone was in China, IIRC. The scouting report on him is that he's an intelligent player. He certainly has the athleticism. And shows flashes of high end skill.

I don't think he'll ever live up to his draft position, but I think his floor is very high. Something like Dan Paille is a pretty safe bet. You hope 1st round picks are better than that, but that's not a complete bust. Players like that are useful and valuable. And at the upper end, his ceiling is probably comparable to Michael Grabner.

He was only picked 5 spots higher than paille.

The biggest issue will always be that immediately after him went Connor, Barzal, and Chabot. Which certainly hurts. But hey, they avoided a cap crunch!

Can you imagine if they'd gone DeBrusk, Connor and Chabot instead?
Chabot would be lighting it up in Providence. This would’ve been Barzal’s rookie season, and with no power play time. Conner would’ve probably stayed in school instead of having to play in Providence. Long way of saying that let’s not write off Senyshyn and Zboril yet because other guys had more opportunities to play in the NHL earlier.

And if Barzal had played last year, it'd have likely been at DeBrusk's expense as well, so he might not have developed like he has.
