I have hardly watched any of the first five games but suddenly there is a window for me this afternoon. Not sure who’s pitching. Doesn’t matter. The ball is going to fly out of the park today.

Game is on MLB Network. Figures. I signed up for MLB TV last night. Following one team. $91. This is my contribution to the financial madness.

My old guy theory on the injury wave is too many muscles. Too many players with muscles. Mantle had natural muscles and popped a few over the years. Hamstrings for sure. In 1962 he was busting down the line to prolong a game and went down like he had been shot. Hamstring. Missed two months. He was no longer young, at 31.

Hopefully the warmer weather creates some energy. I was supposed to be there today and came down with food poisoning.

The Babe Ruth book by Jane Leavy goes where no historian has gone before. She dispels some of the mythical stories of his youth. And talks about the selling of Babe Ruth, the first athlete smart enough to hire a full-time agent.
Leavy even hints at the basis for the feud between Ruth and Gehrig in the 1930s. They were on a cruise together with the wives. Lou’s new bride goes missing. Lou and his pals look all over the ship, find her half-cocked on champagne in Babe’s suite. Mrs. Ruth there, too. Lou was pissed, jealous, perhaps suspicious. He got the new bride out of there in a hurry.

MLBN still on the Phil/Nats game, probably won't get to us until 3rd inning at earliest, so you money isn't wasted
Yes, I got caught up in something else. Now I am on my computer watching the game. Didn’t miss anything. 0-0 in the third. Looks like the Yanks left their offense in Florida.

Color me not surprised about Tulo. Me and everyone else.
Let’s see, the infield from left to right is now DJ, Torres, Wade and Voit/Bird.

Hell of a throw, Sanchez positions himself where he can't tag him...what annoys me most is I see zero improvement in his skills at the plate
Sanchez was at least two feet off the foul line when he caught the ball. But if he’s on the line, he’s blocking the plate illegally. Modern rules. Old days, Munson or Fisk settles on the line, bracing for a collision. But it’s a safer game now.

Embrace the futility, Coup.

I just found myself admiring how smooth Torres is at shortstop. Little details are important when nobody can hit.

They can bring up Urshela who I talked about all winter, Urshela/Gleyber/DJ R to L, Heller to the 60 man for a 40 man spot.

There’s hope. Gardenhire just made his first move, yanking Matt Boyd after 6.1 innings and 13 Ks. 98 pitches. Right move as the Yanks have a couple actual hitters coming up.

Slept through most of this so far, looks like the lineup joined me.

Poor hitting, poor managing, and poor defense is not a great way to start the season.

Edit: And poor health too. At least the pitching doesn't look too bad.
