What do you think.
I think they have some good players and play hard, and compete, but it is tough to look at the team, pitching in particular, and think they will be much better.
I think the pitching is definitely the problem, but the offense is so exciting on occasion that I hope that it can do enough to compensate. It was a shame that Chang was injured, b/c his defense really made a difference and his hitting seemed to be rounding into form. Remember how pitiful Masa looked a few weeks ago? It's possible Chang was on a trajectory to make that kind of leap, and be really useful until Story's return. Now, I don't know.
Bernardino has been effective in three innings in this series, and I had never heard of him. One can only hope that Chaim has other nice surprises up his sleeve.

Bullpen seems fine.

They've got Sale, Kluber, Whitlock, Pivetta, Houck, Paxton, Bello in the SP mix. It's been disappointing, but there's a lot of upside there.

Kind of a disappointing series but a 3-3 road trip at the end of three weeks in a row is pretty good, as is maintaining .500 after that Rays sweep

I have no idea what they're going to do at 2B, but another player will be needed. Give Hamilton a go or stopgap Goodrum? Hernandez at SS is a lurking problem, someone who could play SS credibly would be preferred because man Arroyo looks like a DFA candidate again.

Valdez and Hernandez up the middle is not sustainable. And Arroyo at second is below average. They have to do something.

They're far from out of it; they just need one more clutch hitter...(and six or seven decent pitchers)...and they can overtake the Sugar Rays.

3-7 vs AL East

10-6 vs everyone else
Outside of the Angels, most every team we’ve played is currently first or second in their divisions

Despite injuries and rough pitching, we’ve hung at 500 against mostly top tier teams.

I’ve got confidence we can hang in the race and make some headway when the schedule lightens and a few players comeback.

Of course, I was also confident in the Celtics midway through the 4th last night.

The Angels were in first place when we played them too.
The next 7 games are against second place Cleveland and then Toronto, who are 16-9 but a half game behind the Orioles for second.

Playing .500 ball through April/May, followed by Duvall, Story, and a couple of pitchers returning from injuries, is really all I've been hoping for medium term.
